I wanna learn how to make sweet renders
ive done a few pics with adobe by like coping and pasting pics from fred lol (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
i wanna learn how to model and make some sweet renders
and what programs to use
please and thank you
-
Hmm, If you want to model and make good renders you'll need Lightwave or 3DS Max...
-
First of all:

You've come to the right place to learn - that's what we're all about. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Personally, I use Rhino3D ("http://www.rhino3d.com/") to model, and trueSpace ("http://www.caligari.com/") to texture and render. The I use Photoshop for post-render effects, like text, beams and engine glows.
EDIT: Once you learn (if you learn) Rhino, see my siggy for a nice tutorial. {/p1mp}

America, stand assured that Israel truly understands what you are going through.
Know how to use Rhino3D? Want to put your ships into Freespace 2? You've come to the right place ("http://www.geocities.com/sandvich/fs2/rhino_fs2/")!

Hmm might be where im going wrong, im trying to put beams in Truespace during the render and not post-render hmm.
-
do u have to buy those programs?
-
Hey, welcome...
Lightwave is a good one to use, and yes you have to buy them..*cough*
oh and sandwich..

That's another possibility. I used to do beams that way in my early TS1 renders. But somehow it doesn't look really good when I do the same thing in TS4.
Looks at all the people around...
You guys look as if you've just seen a ghost. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
I use Truespace 1.0 because im not into buying stuff, although im purchasing Lunarcell because its priced sensibly. How did you create beams in Truespace 1.0?
-
Photoshop beams, ahh.... the pleasure (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
Its easier with Lightwave..

-
hey do u guys mind helping me out
im kinda new and this ooks interesting
my email is [email protected]
thanks
-
I'd point you to my tutorials... but their...ah... down at the moment (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
Photoshop had a too big price tag and a too big download. So im sticking with PSP7, Illusion for my explosions and Truespace/blender for texturing and modeling.
-
Good point - how do you blend explosions into renders? I never could get just one explosion graphic (as opposed to an entire animation).

(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif) ANIVIEW32, save frame as... , paste as new layer, screen blending mode.
-
Here's a explosion, created in illusion. Illusion though has animation program but if your good with the print screen button you can get a good one at the right moment.

Sorry - didn't explain that properly. I mean't Illusion created explosions (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
alpha blending.
Id recommend you do some research...these kind of renders dont come easy and it will take you some amount of months to learn how to use these packages.
On the upside...if you're very good you can earn a comfortable living out of doing this sort of stuff (most of it is boring TV transitions/commercial work though)

have you ANY idea of how much trouble you're in?
assault on a police officer.
Theft of police property.
Illegal possesion of a firearm.
FIVE counts of attempted murder.
That comes to...
twenty-nine dollars and 14 cents.
cash, cheque or credit card?
-
my trick is, setting the render as the background and adding the explosion, playing it and print-screening at the moment you want the bang. Once i add beams and get some engines glows though, i might be able to turn that into a half-decent render.
-
Well lets start from the begining:
You'll need a decent computer to render, which would have to be better then mine.
Recommended Specs
- PIII 450+/Athlon/Duron
- 64MB+ Ram
- 16MB/32MB Graphics
Note: (It is wise to have 24bit/32bit Monitor Support and Resolution support for 800*600 or above)
I would recommend Truespace5, because 3D Studio Max or LightWave 7 are more for designing and editing high end meshes. For post render fx I use Adobe Photoshop 6 but you can try Paint Shop Pro 7 if you can not get a hold of Ps6.
Now you can check out Kazaa ("http://www.kazaa.com") but they got rid of the search function so you'll have to try using the desktop search. If you can't get Ps6 or Ts5 off Kazaa you can d/l the trial version from adobe ("http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html") and caligari ("http://www.caligari.com")
Well once you got that sorted out just post a reply saying so and I'll give you some links to awesome tutorials that will help enormously. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

is morpheus better than kazaa?

That might be considered a link to warez...beware the admins (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/nervous.gif)...

What's morpheus, never heard of it.

Well, that depends what package you'd use.
In a pretty straight forward set up, say...
Illusion for particle animation (thus explosion) over Lightwave or max or under for this matter: forground or background images.
The essential thing is to render the sequencial frames of the explosion with Illusion in TGA format. That automatically gives you a hidden alpha layer. Easy then to use that in lightwave or max. As well as that, Illusion will render just the alpha images alone if need to. Once again, easy to do a compositing in lightwave or max. The only problem is maching the camera movement on both programs since Illusion does not import mot files and it does not export the cam movement file in any format. I have a method for that but it takes too long to explain it here. Of course, the easiest thing is to keep the camera still during the composited explosion. I don't know about TS, but in a general sense it should be able to render a compositing of the two images easy enough.

what the??? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
save as bmp and choose the frame, you droofus (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
OMG, print screen (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

I,ve got a PIII 600 with 256mb Ram and all that stuff you mentioned. Although i,ve only got Truespace 1.0.

You need the full, $250 version to save as bmp.
-
Why is it all the cool features only feature in the full thing (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)
Or at least the only feature I really want... oh well.
As for Kazaa, I use it - and I consider it file sharing, not warez - so thats ok (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

ADMRL,
I posted some suggestions to free/cheap modelling resources on the SSC BB in the FF forums (we don't see you post enough there (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)).
What do folks think of Blender?
How about gMAX (i know it's kinda crippled for saving as anything other than it's format, but does it have good rendering capabilities?)?
I use Milkshape quite a bit for manipulating low poly models for use in games, it's like 20 bucks, the other two are free. There is also Strata3D (which I have only tinkered with), Truespace1, and a couple of decent terrain/landscape freebies out there (terragen comes to mind).
-
Also, you'll need POF2COB, I have it if you want it.
Also, I am wondering how to do effects, like lasers, ion beams, etc. in TS1.How?

oh oups, mea culpa (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Gmax is 3Dmax without the renderer or advanced options of the material/shader editor.
It also has a far more limited IK and many of the modifier stack tools have been removed.
Other than that, it is identical in every way.
If you want to learn a high end package and plan on going into this field as a living, softimage currently offer XSI 2.0 for $500.

I think Gmax won't save max or 3ds files, tho, only .gmax files...
