Title: OT - Is Setekh helping decode the human gene?
Post by: Sandwich on December 12, 2001, 09:31:00 am
Judge for yourselves: a Yahoo search for "Setekh" turned this (//"http://gah.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage.pl?q=Setekh") up as the second result.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

You REALLY have too much spare time on your hands!

------------------
have you ANY idea of how much trouble you're in?
assault on a police officer.
Theft of police property.
Illegal possesion of a firearm.
FIVE counts of attempted murder.
That comes to...

twenty-nine dollars and 14 cents.
cash, cheque or credit card?

And check this one out: http://gah.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage.pl?q=shrike ("http://gah.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage.pl?q=shrike")

Do a search for Iverach (my other nick) and see what you find  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
You might be suprised, or you might actually learn something...

Everytime I see things like that, I wonder; how do companies get domains like that

Pretty easy actually. They just go to a domain registrar and register it. For .com, .net and .org domains, there is not oversight, no checking to see that you are indeed representative of the company whose name you just stole. After the fact, they may challenge your claim, but its still first come first serve. I could register drzer0.com and put up a site that says ANYTHING. Its called domain squatting.

And that's nasty for people who have legitimate reasons for wanting certain domains. www.hlp.com, ("http://www.hlp.com,")  for example, is taken.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Someone did that to me with 404error, actually. Some outfit in Sydney, Oz. had taken 404error.org and 404error.net and just sat on them. They never did anything with them. I waited and waited and the first time they failed to renew I snapped them up. *heh*

Really? Nasty Aussies, that's a rarity - I'm in right mind to go and smash some servers up  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) But that's good that you got the domain eventually. Funny stuff.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Know how to use Rhino3D? Want to put your ships into Freespace 2? You've come to the right place ("http://www.geocities.com/sandvich/fs2/rhino_fs2/")!

Luckily, .org isn't taken. But we wouldn't get one yet anyway, cos it's nice to have the 3dap.com bit in our address - they're really good hosts.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
