So...are you trying to tell us something? ;)
-
i showed this to my Software Engineering prof last semester. I think he got a kick out of it -- then again I didn't fail :)

The bottom three panels are painfully accurate.
And yes, I am trying to say something, although I betcha it'll be contradictory as hell. :p Oftentimes I've seen people lamenting the lack of a feature, as if SCP coders are supposed to just psychically know what people are going to actually _use_. (oh god, i've started accenting words with underscores, I must be turning into kazan) This means that a few features have gone unnoticed and unimplemented just because people didn't feel it was worth the time and effort to simply state a feature request. OR instead of just stating what they want, they instead try to come up with some pseudocodish way to do it, suggesting a method of implementation to 'help' the coders, even though they don't know what the hell they're talking about. :p
But then, at the same time, it's also annoying to have feature requests dumped on you in massive threads that evolve into discussion and then revolve into feature requests and eventually devolve into a flamewar before getting locked. :p And there's always the chance that some wacky idea that somebody has to implement something may actually be in the right direction, or at least end up acting as a catalyst for thinking in the right direction.
So, I don't think there's an easy solution but it's nice to ***** once in a while. :nervous:

Goober had this one in his sig for a while. I probably find it even more true now that I'm a coder. :D
That's the other problem with the SCP. Someone comes up with a perfectly reasonable idea and everyone jumps on it with less reasonable ones :D
-
Yeah. I decided it wasn't accurate because it's a problem with the forumites, not the SCP. :D

That's the other problem for the SCP. Someone comes up with a perfectly reasonable idea and everyone jumps on it with less reasonable ones :D
?
Incidentally I think the other problem mentioned on the original thread (that it makes some modders lazy) is the bigger one.
-
it would definately be better if more modders learned scripting. how many times must i tell people to use scripting to implement this feature or that feature. lua isnt that hard of a language. im still trying to get it into everyones head how powerfull it is and why they should use it.

That's the other problem for the SCP. ...
?
 That implies it's our job to fix it!

Agreed.

Or that it's a pain in the arse for us. Which is the implication I was going for :)
Besides we are fixing it. Temp bans and harsh language are slowly having the desired effect :D

Hey dumbasses, stop playing the damn game and start coding :p

the old school is rubbing off

I wanted to make a thread complaining about my inability to play FSO on my new computer, but then I remembered it's Intel's fault, and the thread would have been as useful as this post.
