Like the title says. What really is it that would make you go and download a campaign?
Is it because of what somone else has told you about it?
Because it has loads of mods?
Because you like trying out user made campaigns themselves?
Because your bored?
Because somone you know has made it?
I'm mainly asking because I have finished making the preparations for campaign (alot of table editing etc but not many actual mods) and am wondering if there is any point in making a full campaign if no one is going to download it.
If there's somthing above which I missed then feel free to add it.

I download and cehck any and all campaigns available. Unfortunately, though, I usually don't have the time to play them all, so I just pile them up on my HD to that oh so much awaited day when I'll have free time to play them. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Ditto there. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
It's all about free time. And lack therof. There's not enough time to do anything these days (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

It's probably a mix of all the things your listed above Wildfire. I like campaigns that have a good story, with some new mods.
But if you want people to notice your campaign (besides having a kickass campaign), you gotta do some things.
1. Have a good website and update it every now and then.
2. Advertise it! Pimp it! Remember campaigns like "A time to stand" and "Unholy alliance". Those two were probably the most pimped campaigns out there (sad thing that none of them was completed). Release some screenshots and renders. Maybe even a trailer.
3. Get yourself a name in the FS community. This is maybe easier said that done. But people rather download "Icefire's campaign" than "Unknownguys's campaign".

poum poum... whatever I try, I'm unknown anywhere else than at VBB. VWBB peoples don't care (I posted a lot there, but they just won't reply so **** now, and the VBB I don't even talk about it.)

I do the exact same thing. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) Hopefully I will get some time to try these out during the school winter break coming up...
Advertise it! Pimp it!
I think I will follow your advice...
LOOK FOR THE PROCYON INSURGENCY EARLY NEXT JANUARY!
-11 high-quality missions with a compelling storyline
-New player-flyable ship
-Several other new ships
-3 new player-usable weapons
-3 squadrons with accompanying logos
-A few soundtracks from the original FreeSpace
-16 new background images
okay, that was a real p1mp, but oh well... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Loads of MODs, good storyline, missions have NO bugs in them, and cutscenes if possible.
Oh yeah, no escort missions, or missions where you have to protect something.
[This message has been edited by Unidan (edited 12-14-2001).]
-
What's wrong with escort missions? As long as you have a good loadout and the bombers aren't too numerous, you can pull them off.
-
what I want? well, in fact, it's rather what I don't want: no waves after waves of fighters and bombers (poor and boring solution, if you ask me), and a flawless gameplay, never too hard, and never too easy.
A mission you can fail once, but not twice is a perfect one imho.
-
And lets not forget the most important thing. A good storyline. That is crucial to the success of a campaign. Look at Derelict!

"You know you've played Freespace too much when you're driving along trying to use countermeasures to shake off pursuing highway police." - Top Gun
"Oh and Kazan - you have some nice rocks" - Thunder
"stapled myself to an office chair, forgot about it, and was stuck for 2 hours for one thing" - Stryke 9
Material Defender Studios ("http://www.mdstudios.f2s.com/index.html")
-
If you make a twenty minute long mission, don't put the hardest bit at the end so the player dies and has to sit through the whole thing again.
Lots and lots of bombing missions... but lots and lots of escort missions to (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Anally-retentive perfectionism on the part of the mission and model designers, but with a co-ordinater who can stop the campaign from slipping into development hell...

I really hope that these aren't mutually inclusive. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/redface.gif)

Is there anyone who has the free time (orf the inclanation) to help me make a website for the campaign. I have mimimal experience with making web pages and don't have the time to do it well.
Like some have advised I'll advertise my campaign and if the response is positive I'll start making the mission for it.
If I made a small demo (like a "pilot" campaign of about 7 missions) would anyone be interested in trying it out?

Great! I can put together the story etc on a file and send it to you. You can choose how to lay the site out if decide to go for it.
Oh and if you want to bring somone else in to help that's fine as well.

Sometimes these two end up being mutually exclusive. When you have MODs in the campaign, you have to be sure they can be worked into the storyline plausibly.
For instance, massive recessions and the sudden construction of a new GTVA warfleet do not go together plot-wise.
Same goes for adding 40 new Terran ships and only about 3 new Vasudan ones. Seems a bit unbalanced if the Vasudans are supposed to be equal partners in the GTVA.

no lol, I meant for the demo, I have no skills for making a site (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Vasudans are just a "addatage". The Terrans are the main people.

No problem neither do I. Hope Joe can help. As for the demo any help is welcome. Can you render?

My campaign isn't having to have many mods at all. Maybe some new music but the majority will simply be modifications to the ships and weapons tables to change the existing ships statistic plus I'm creating a new "universe" with its own history.

You weren't joking. Setekh would you be able to do some renders in the future?
You don't have to join the staff (if there is gonna be one) if you don't want to but you'll still get the credit for the images.

No, we're equal partners. It's just that we tend to adapt more quickly.
Keep in mind the Terran military and economy suffered much more from the Great War, NTF, and Capella. While the Vasudans only lost the 13th battle group and a bit of their 9th, the Terrans lost the entire 3rd, 4th, and 6th fleets, plus the Colossus. On top of that there were all the ships who defected to the NTF.
And it's been shown several times that the Vasudan economy is stronger than the Terran one, which means more in the budget for military expenditures.
So by all rights the Vasudans should be getting more ship classes than us, not less.
And for those of you who argue that Vasudan ships suck, well, pay attention to the Eden Project ("http://pub97.ezboard.com/fmetalsirensforumsfrm4"), you might just start preferring them. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I don't especially have to see tons of mods, if the campaign has a awesome storyline it is good for me.

Probably. Give me a few guidelines and I'll see what I can do. Time is better now that I have holidays so I should be able to fit more stuff in (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Great. For now I just need a render of a Hecate on patrol near Earth or Mars with maybe an Arcadia in the background and a few herc Mk I groups flying escort.
The render can't have any other ship types in it except for maybe one or two Loki's or Medusa's.
Just take your time with this one. I'm looking for more quality than speed with this project. Thx.
