Title: Block Bug
Post by: JFASI on October 18, 2006, 07:21:04 am
I am running Freespace 2 SCP after installing the game with the help of this website:
http://www.geocities.com/turey_the_king_of_the_universe/nooblist.html (http://www.geocities.com/turey_the_king_of_the_universe/nooblist.html)
I'm running command line parameters

C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -mod Media_VPs -spec -glow -env -jpgtga -nomotiondebris -2d_poof -missile_lighting -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -3dwarp -warp_flash
in OpenGL Mode

and a
Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, 1 gig ram, NVidia GForce FX 5200 on Windows XP pro.

I am getting a really blocky render of ships whenever I run an campaign, and as I get closer, they get gradually more and more defined. One ship didn't even have any textures covering it, and was invisible except for the glowmaps on the engines. It looks something like this:

Please help.

:welcome:

Welcome to HLP Station, May your stay here be pleasant. Please be aware that our resident tame Shivan, Carl, lurks in the air ducts, if you happen to see him, back away carefully, toss him your lunch and pray that he isn't hungry. In the event of an emergency, the plasma rifle is stored under your seat. However, due to budget cuts, the napalm has been replaced with holy water! Access to the weapons lockers is restricted to Admins/Moderators, :v: and The Hyper Intelligent Shade Of Blue. Mention of a third instalment of our favourite game is prohibited as are any combination of the characters eff ess three. Should this station develop a serious fault, please board an escape pod which has been programmed to take you to our sister station Game Warden. Please try to avoid all flame wars that can flare up at any time in various parts of the station and once again enjoy your stay!

On a side note, have you tried upping the settings within options (F2 during game and top left hand corner is Details settings)?

First read Karajorma's FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html).  Make sure you're using the most current version of SCP, go here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,41891.0.html) to get 3.6.9 RC7, which is the most up-to-date, and go here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html) to get the 3.6.8 Zeta Mediavp's.

Sounds like you have your detail settings set too low.  Bump them higher.

Well, I have a 2,4 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM and a 5500FX, and it goes perfectly even if "upped it to the max". Obviously, without mv_adveffects...

Cobra, a GF4 can run FSO decently.  the FX5200 is about the same card spec-wise as a Gf4 4400 (Actually slower than the 4400).  It sucks when it comes to running FSAA/Aniso Filtering.  The ATI Cards that compare to those models, 9000 series Radeons do AA and AF MUCH better.

IF you run things "plain jane" then you're fine with an FX card.  Expect massive slowdown with AA/AF cranked to medium settings.
