Ok, to start: It was during my army service that I picked up the nickname "Sandwich". Why? Well, I was on guard duty and got relieved by my, errrr... relief ( (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)) before lunch. So as I was walking away I shouted to him (in Hebrew) "Do you want me to make you a sandwich to eat or something?" Now in Hebrew the English word "sandwich" is pronounced "sandvich" - with a "V". But I didn't know that, so I said "sandwich" - with a "W". Another soldier overheard my mis-pronunciation and had a short laugh. (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Months later I was transferred to the same platoon as the soldier who had had that laugh. (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) He recognized me and started to call me "Sandwich" - with a "W" - which is a letter that doesn't exist in Hebrew. Simply put, it's the equivalent of calling me in English "Sandvich". (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Anyways, so one of my friends from the army just messaged me on ICQ with a joke. Get this:
A hamburger walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve food here."
I cracked up. (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif) (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Hey, we had fun. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) I remember the time we were sent to dismantle (read: blow up) an Israeli minefield in the Golan Heights. Usually, since the protective equipment and explosives that we need to lug into the minefield to blow it up are so heavy that we relish every second outside, sitting under a tent or something drinking badly perpared juice from concentrate. This time, however, there was an absolutely humongous swarm of wasps in the area of the road that ran alongside the minefield, which is where our tent was set up. They were attracted by all the spilt juice and open cans of food, and really started coming out in numbers. So, for this time, we all relished the chance to get back on gear and into the minefield, where the wasps didn't follow. I guess they knew what was good for them. That is so much better than the creation of my nickname.
It came about because I was looking for a name that nobody had on DALnet (IRC) and a name that was wholy contradictory.

Icefire is quite a good name. I spent years on Starwars.com trying to find a unused nick.

The Vertigo 1 Material Defender is MD-1032 though; maybe he just changed around the numbers... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Also, I don't think anyone will be able to guess how I got mine... (and no, it has nothing to do with the old Compaq 5600 line of computers (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))

I go by Sandwich when I can, but I find it very handy to use "sandvich" when signing up for something that requires a unique username. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

By "made up" I mean that I chose it myself - of course it's based on the name of the River of Hate, one of the five rivers that circle Hades on greek mythology (I just added an X to make it a bit different).
