Title: FRED is acting very strange... again
Post by: Dark Hunter on October 27, 2006, 10:36:01 pm
I have been having a very frustrating time attempting to get FRED 3.6.9 RC7 to cooperate. The odd thing is: it simply won't work. I try to run it, using any mod or just normal FS2, and it instantly crashes. The debug build gives me nothing. Simply the generic windows error message: "FRED2 has encountered a problem and needs to close". I tried reinstalling it, but nothing changed, leaving me to believe that either A. the download is corrupt, or B. some setting on the computer is screwing it up. Since FRED2 was working a week ago, I think it must be B.

Strangely, this has happened before: but earlier a simple reinstallation was all it took. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

EDIT: Tried running 3.6.8 3/23/2006 build on a lark, and it doesn't work either. How is it that all FRED2Open builds on my comp can be failing at once?

Are you running them all through the same short cut and just changing the filenames? If so start there.

First off try running FRED directly from the executable without using any shortcut. Since all it should find is the retail data you shouldn't have any problems getting that to work expect it pops up the nag screen telling you that you're an idiot for not using -fredhtl :D

Yeah... I found out what happened... and I feel extraordianrily stupid.
My computer just needed a de-fragging. :p

Wonder why it's FRED that crashes and no other programs...
