Title: Looking for VP Mage
Post by: Tyrian on October 28, 2006, 03:16:37 pm
I downloaded a mod, and am having trouble getting it working right.  I can fix it on my own, but I need to open its .vp file.  I tried searching for VP Mage and Quick VP on the forums, but couldn't find a working link.  I also checked Kara's FAQ, but I couldn't find it there either.

Anyone know where I can get it?

SCP Downloads->Tools (http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?list.11)

 :)

But beware, the program has some interesting qualities, such as residing in the process list after quitting it - it must be killed with task manager before you can open it again successfully.

VPMage is mainly meant for creating/editing VP files. For just viewing purposes you're better off installing some or all Descent Manager tools (http://www.descent-network.com/descman/).

Odd. My copy of VPMage isn't anything like that. Be wary, Tyrian: it can be very confusing using this silly program for the first time.

Thanks for the links.  All I need to do is open the .vp file and edit a mission or two.  Hopefully it won't be too complicated...

Nah, that shouldn't. Remember you need to remove the file from the VP before doing editing of any kind.

Ah...the VP Mage link is busted...I got VP view instead, will that still work for what I want to do?

Ermm... VPView won't put your files back together, though you'll still be able to extract and edit.

Here is my copy of VPMage. I forget if it needs any additional files, but it's worth a shot.
