Title: Suggestion to HLP & other sites...
Post by: Xelion on December 16, 2001, 09:10:00 pm
I've noticed that freespace2.com and pxo.net and many other sites have color matching schemes for their scrollbars. I known keeping up with web design for some people is tricky, but I think it might be a good idea and it would improve the look of the home page and the whole site. Oh by the way if you need script for the scroll bar coloring I can post it. ------------------------------------------- And if any around here is thinking I've got too much time because I'm posting something like this, there wrong!

yuppers.... I by no means speak for the staff, but on a personal level, the gray suits me just fine. My desktop colors are set as HLP anyways, so... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Grey's fine for me, personally. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) Maybe we should go the whole hog and make a HLP desktop theme. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Yeah, I like the grey just fine - changing it doesn't rerally serve functionality at all so I don't think theres much point.

Well, if anyone wants the change, go ahead and yell. If there's enough, then we might think about it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

neither do I, my comp crashes quite often, I don't want my IE settings to be tweaked, even for a few minutes. Win is evil, it will make the colours stay! I know! I know! I...

Well, it's actually non-standard CSS definitions that are only supported by MSIE 5.5+. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I say leave the user's OS GUI to their own settings. The scrollbar is not part of a web site, it is part of the browser interface, and as such it's design should remain with the browser interface design (which is decided by user's changing the design for their OS).
And that's my two cents. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

This is true, but most of the things that websites do is non-standard. There isn't a single page in this community that would come close to HTML validation past HTML 2.0, so W3C can go to hell (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

AFAIK, HTML 3.2 is a valid standard, and I think HTML 4.0 is, too, no? Anyway, I cheated on the Sandvich Bar ("http://www.geocities.com/sandvich/index.html") a bit and used propritary (sp?) IE extension, such as these:
I'll stop playing with HTML now - I hope you all enjoyed that MSIE only lesson. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
