Well, the title actualy says it all. But still. It really looks like a Vasudan handwriting. Might as well be for Anicients.

So it does.... That's very interesting, could be useful. Bagging it for use later.
-
Very interesting language... i'll check on my vasudan dictionary if it is prehistoric, archaic or modern vasudan...apart from jokes, i'll take that page into consideration for later uses thank you, and BTW:

Welcome to the HLP Station. Exits are located to the right, left, up, down, and 4th-dimensionally. However all of them are blocked, except the 4-d one, and no one's yet figured how to reach it. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. We are currently suffering from technical disruptions from time to time, which may cause the lights go out at any instance, and sometimes even the basic life support fails for some time. At these times, stay calm and composed; for these cases the station system automatically drops a computer from the roof above you with FSO installed and ready. They have independent power sources. Please keep all appendages within the installation at all times. Do not feed the resident Shivan Carl as he will become voracious and chew your leg off. You can find him in the ventilation duct. Throw him your lunch and hope he is not hungry and leaves you alone. Flamethrowers can be found under your seat but due to financial constraints have been re-filled with holy water. Phased Plasma rifles (40 watt range of course) can be found in storage lockers. To prevent act of n00b, however, these can only be opened by Moderators, Volition or a hyperintelligent shade of BluE. Please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by FreeSpace fan boys. Your trampled remains will be fed to Carl so that the rest of us don't have to carry around so much food for lunch. If you shall go in the Vasudan section of the station and find a boxes labelled “Headz”, please don’t open them, unless you are a Vasudan. Trust me on this one... Anyway, in cases of problems to occurr in the Vasudan section, you have discovered a nice alphabet, USE IT. In the event of catastrophic hull failure please board the nearest lifeboat which is pre-programmed for autonomous flight to our sister station the Game-Warden outpost. Thank you and enjoy your stay at Hard Light station as long as you will!

This has been discussed before. No one probably wants to do this, and nameplates on such "organic" looking ships don't work.
-
Vasudan ships would look ridiculous with a nameplate. Its just too terran a thing to do.
-
There are other places you may wish to use a vasudan font though so it is worth having one. I think there is a better one knocking about though.
-
Galemp made an extremely good one a while ago using that render from the GOTY edition. I don't have a link, although it's installed on my computers.
The Vasudan text is probably made from some standard font floating around the internet though. I know I've seen it in other games.

In reply to Admiral Evidad:
Longest... Welcome SpeechTM.... ever!
-
oooh, i see some of my own one in there, *approves and encourages* financial constraints, voracious, and phased plasma rifles all need to be used more often :p
ps- Act of noob too
Kudos Edivad
-
Maybe a poll would have solved the problem...
I also thought about this thing being too "Terran"... However, I sometimes find the Vasudan ship kinda boring. Except for SCP effects and maps, nothing much.

Actually, I'd like to request that the "welcome speech" please be shortened. They're nothing really more than spam. Yes, we're a generally friendly community, but the posts serve no actual purpose that cannot be satisfied with a "welcome aboard" and the ridiculous beam image.

The welcome speech is actualy a really nice thing
-
Obviously people like to customise certain bits, personalisation and addition of certain nuances occur habitually.
But i see where you're coming from Tarastin: In a few months the welcome speech could be three pages long :nervous:
I propose a standardised speech...........
someone else can do it, What about Tarasitin?
-
How about the first person to actually answer the original posters question simply says "welcome to the board"? :D
-
That works too..... :D
-
Welcome speeches are drifting into the same realm as postcounts and signatures....
It's not a competition.
-
Personally, I like the welcome beam. What I don't like is practically everything that comes before and after it. All you need is a welcome beam and short, single-sentence 'hello', everything else is just unnecessary and obnoxious.

Given the mindblowing nature of the vasudan language, how do they even have a written form?
-
Yes. It just varies with the relative spacial positions of all your body parts, as well as your location relative to the intended addressees, the emperor... But everyone learne to read all the forms, so they have no problem with it.
-

Simple. The written language could be seperate from the spoken one (like Klingon).
Mind you, that introduces its own complications.

Ok, that's for Vasudans. But how do terrans managed to create translators?? :eek2:

Well somehow they did it... otherwise GTVA would never be succesfull...and there would never be Freespace 2...

Why not? IIRC Mandarin has around 40,000 symbols representing ideas, for example, but it can still be written in pinyin using the latin alphabet.

Yeah, but Mandarin doesen't change according to the relative position of the speakers from the emperor... :D
-
Stupid Zods, does that mean when the HoL rebelled, that they took on their own dialect?
Huh?

That may be just a tense change; you can write it all the same.
-

Or a FreeSpace 1, for that matter, considering if the Terrans and Vasudans hadn't banded together they would have been wiped out.
-
Or it could be one of those dramatic trajedy stories.... Huh?
-

Yeah. The position was called giving the Khonsu the finger. :D
-
I've never really thought too much about First Contact between Terrans and Vasudans, but seeing as how the Vasudans are absolute master linguists, I'm guessing that they were the ones who first figured out how to talk to us, not the other way around. :p
-
There's probably an official dialect, and a pidgin language for just this reason.
-

Yea, and probably there is also a guide on how to pronounce it.
-
Such symbols would look great if "carved" directly on the hull. On a name plate, they would just... suck.
-
could be a good idea, if somebody is able to obtain such a graphic effect!
-
Bump mapping is planned at some point...
-
It looks all the same at the part where there is the simble thing...
