Title: problems when loading FS2 SCP
Post by: Insomniac34 on November 22, 2006, 09:31:34 am
Whenever I click on the launcher, at first I get a mesage saying 'Launcher must be in the Freespace dir". However it IS in the freespace directory so I don't know what it's talking about.

The second, bigger problem, is that when I have gone into the launcher and selected any mod to play, whether it is the default FS2 campaign or Inferno or Derelict, the SCP loading screen will show up but then it goes back to the debugger spew thingy and gives me this stuff:

(http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/1055/fs2errorszr0.th.jpg) (http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fs2errorszr0.jpg)

Notice the error message in the upper right corner.

What the hell is wrong with my beloved SCP??? It's in C\games\FreeSpace2...

Did you put your directory to fs_open_3.6.x_debug version? If so, I recommend you set launcher to the normal FS_open. Not the debug

EDIT:
Are you using hacked table files? If you dont know what they are, leave it...

how would I do that? No I never fooled with the tbl files. If it means anything, my Table folder is completely empty...

1) Are you using a shortcut? I remember having the same problem, but finding out that the shortcut ran to my C drive, not my external F drive. If it's in the right directory, make sure that you've got the right shortcut.

2) Are you running the Freespace Open debugger? If you are, use just the RC. Could you post a pic of your C:/Games/Freespace2/ directory? I think I might know what's going on...

OK problem fixed. However  a new one has arisen- when I click on FRED, it says "could not find openAL32.dll" and says I have to reinstall. Hell no I'm not reinstalling. What should I do?

You should put Fred in the same directory as Freespace. Or find the .dll somewhere. When I get home from extracirricular activities, I'll try to post the .dll if I find it

It is in the same folder as Freespace. Why wouldn't the dll be in there? It was last time I played freespace cause FRED worked back then...wierd

oh goddamnit now I'm missing some effects in game. I'm missing nameplates on terran vessels, engine effects, and see through cockpits on certain fighters (not the perseus). What should I do? Leave the FRED problem for later i need to get my VPs working...i swear they were working before. I have a MediaVPs folder with effects, advanced effects, core, amodelspatch 1 and 2, befix, and textures.

OpenAL

Correct VP files to use

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html

Ensure you have both installed. Get rid of any older versions of the later.

now what do I do?

For a start, stop using ancient builds. 3.6.7 is over a year old! :D

Get to the recent builds forum and get yourself 3.6.9 RC 7 immediately.

Alright fine I'll download 3.6.9 when i get back to my house in a few days. Shivan needs to update the torrent package I just spent days downloading it off of Isohunt. Maybe this explains why im having problems running the Zeta VP files with my build.

There is a 1.9c update available. If you patch it using that it does most of what we've been telling you to do on this thread. In fact the only reason I didn't tell you to do that straight away is cause you've only just now mentioned that you were using ShivanSPS' pack.

You can find it here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39499.0.html) but to be honest I suspect you've done most of what the update does already. You'd have to ask ShivanSPS whether it would work on a 1.5 install that has been tinkered with.
