Hi, new to FS2, and having some problems with my joystick.
It is a MS Sidewinder, and it has a... slider thing at the front, which I usually use for speed.
So I think the correct term is that it is an analogue control option, not a button. Like the x/y axis for turning.
Is it possible to use my slider for speed? Because I have tried to set it in the game, but it doesn't recognise it.
Is it because FS2 doesn't support analogue for speed, or because... I have a problem.
WinXP. Using latest Freespace SCP I think. I used an automatic installer, which I can't remember where I found it.
Thanks.

was the installer the one linked to in my sig?
IF the slider you're talking about has a spring in it (so that it goes back to center when you let go of it), you'll want to use "Relative Throttle" instead of "Absolute Throttle" in the steps below.
Anyways, here's how you'd set it:
Go into the options menu (hit F2 in-game)
Hit control config in bottom right-hand corner
go to the ship controls
there should be one called "Absolute Throttle". Select it.
hit the Bind button (top right)
move the slider
It should now work. Try it out.

This is about the 15 bazillionth FS2 Joystick Problem. I made one....
Isn't there something about this in Karajorma's FAQ? If there isn't, can the powers-that-be add it to his FAQ?

Oh, sorry for the repeated question then. I did look around the forums a bit, but couldn't find anything useful. And couldn't find any handy faq stickies and what not.
Turey, yep, that was the installer, its great! And thanks for the joystick help :)

yea, I had to post a query as well. Karajorma should put this on his FAQ...

I actually have a question like this. My joystick has one of those, except it stays in the position you leave it. How do I set it for speed?
Thanks

If your stick has a throttle like that, you'll want to use the "Absolute Throttle" config option that Turey mentioned above.

Which version of Microsoft Sidewinder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_SideWinder)?
