Title: n00b says hi: FS2_Open and OSX
Post by: antihostile on December 06, 2006, 08:44:48 pm

Hey all, just joined and I wanted to say hello. First of all, thanks to all the people who have been offering their assistance on various threads. The FS2 community in general seems like a really helpful bunch of guys (and patient with newbies!). I was a Descent/D2/D3 freak back in the day and found out FS2 was ported to OSX a few months ago. I grabbed it, got it to work and what can I say, I'm hooked! The game is incredible and I can't imagine how much work has gone into the various versions, all the mods, etc. I'm running FS2_Open 3.6.9-RC7 on a new macbook (2Ghz Intel Core Duo/2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) with 10.4.8 and the game works great with the detail maxed out. It crashes occasionally, but then what doesn't? I do have a bunch of questions about various .vp files and mods, but I'm not a developer/programmer so I'm just learning as I go along. If I have to start learning to mess with command lines to make sure this game is maxed out graphically, I'll do it! I need that 3D radar! Anyway, hi and thanks again to everyone who helped bring this game to the mac!

I haven't done that in a while.

To add functions, you'll need to add them manually to /Applications/Freespace2/data/cmdline_fso.cfg using TextEdit (assuming you have your Freespace2 directory in Applications).  You can find all the available command line options in HLP's FreeSpace wiki (http://"http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Command-Line_Reference").

Oh, and in the future you will find that technical questions about fs2_open will be noticed and answered most quickly in the Source Code Project forum. :)

Many thanks dudes. I'll start messing around with command lines this weekend and see how it goes. I tried updating w/ 3.0.3 and the FS1 missions but it just messed things up. Whatever, I'll figure it out...from the screenshots I've seen, doesn't look like this game is going to get boring anytime soon. I'll be sure to post them in the SCP forum! Thanks again!
