Forgotten Legacies, my short mini-campaign, is coming along smoothly right now so I've decided to release the first mission of Forgotten Legacies. It contains no violence, so it's one of the two 'story' missions which have no fighting in them.
The backstory involves Procyon A and the 65th White Scorpions squadron of Procyon Station. As Operation Passover, the move to resettle Capellan refugees, the GTVA is planning to send the Capellans to Procyon A. You've been in Procyon A for a long time and you're used to routine patrols around the Procyon gas giant. However, with the operation the amount of patrols has been tripled, each patrol becoming longer but no less uneventful. This mission is one of these patrols around the Procyon Gas Giant.
It's short but it gives you a hint about the you-know-whos returning.
Have fun. :)

See? I'm here to help you.
I'll play the mission ASAP.
EDIT:
Played.
It's a good "no-fire" mission,but there's something strange.
1)There's an Investigate H.... mission goal. You aren't supposed to find the Faustus;
2)happend instead of happened; <------ it's like testing INF:A
3)One message from your wingman has no Head ANI;
-
Thanks, I'll change those in the campaign. I must've forgot to put 'invalid' in the goal editor. I'd really like a tester.... Would you volunteer? :)
-
Why not? I'm making 100 campaigns simultaneously!
Uh you also forgot the skybox.
Another strange thing happened...when the Faustus arrives, you listen the friendly arv sound.
-
This is supposed to be retail compatible so no skybox.
I never noticed that... I'll look into that...
-
No replies? At least encourage Snail...
-
Don't know what you're expecting, but single mission releases never get all that much attention.
-
I'll look at it and reply later...sounds interesting.
-
Rather short....not bad as far as atmosphere is concerned, but nothing special either.. my 2 cents on the matter.
-
Snail, you could turn this mission into a cutscene. Also, improve the background.
-
This is Retail compatible, so no, that's probably not happening.
I know that single-mission releases never get anything, someone released something a while ago and only Kara replied. :P
-
Well I'm interested on single mission releases. I want to know how good am I,compared to other FREDders.
-
This was a 30 minute job, with tweaks and fixes a bit afterward. I've got better missions sitting on my computer (but they're not in FL).
-
Good for you.
Anyway leaving it Retail compatible is completely useless-you should convert it.
-
I cant - I have to get Turey's installer first. :P

Says who?
-
Says him.
-
His authority is somewhat suspect.
-
Well he said it. :P

It's a matter of quality over quantity [of players], and personally I always opt for the former. Go with whatever feels right, but keep in mind you're seriously handicapping yourself by making it retail compatable in this day and age, which is what I assume LGMobius was getting at.
Just my 0.02 shillings.
-
Well even if I wanted to make it SCP I cant since I dont have SCP on this computer. Mainly because I cant be bothered to get winrar.
-
New members don't ask infos about getting SCP builds like I did, they already have them and their first posts are all about problems installing the builds they have.
In poor words, nobody uses the Retail now.

I'm assuming that's what LGM was getting at too, but there are some (not many) reasons to keep using retail. Some people don't have computers (or video cards) that can run the SCP; some have the unfortunate luck to keep running into bugs; some, like Cobra, can't install the SCP correctly; and some, like Selectah, refuse to use the SCP on philosophical grounds.
There's also the legacy support option. We're keeping ST:R compatible with retail because the Port'ed Main FreeSpace Campaign and Silent Threat are compatible with retail. Not providing FS2-compatible versions for campaigns that worked on FS1 would be a dumb decision IMHO.
That doesn't preclude us from using SCP enhancements, of course. Version 3.0 of the Port has tons of improvements that work in FSO but are simply deactivated in retail.
