Title: Conversion
Post by: Snail on December 09, 2006, 12:00:38 pm
I know practically all of the people here are able to convert ready-made models in FS2, but unfortunately for me, I am not. After trying to fix up this model for about 2 hours, something really stupid happens every time (reversed normals, no textures, submodels not loaded, lods messed up, etc.).

Sooooo, I need help. If you are willing to help the ungifted, please PM me. Thank you.

It's only £2 a month...

Please.................. Please.................... :( :sigh:

Help the Snail along...

EDIT:

okay, since that didn't help, I'll be more specific. I need either the Super Hatsheptsut or the Kabechet models in Modeldump 4 to be converted to FreeSpace 2. Preferrably with turrets.

Someone finally comes to help the poor Snail. :D

Ok, sorry i forgot about this. I know its been a long time. if you still want it i'll try to get it done this week. I'll use standard vasudan turrets. I was thinking of ten multipart blob/flak turrets and the rest button turrets. that sound ok? If you had specfics on the turrets in mind, just tell me.

I've got 36 turrets on it and it is in game. I pathed it and now it screws up.  When I start the test mission instead of being where I placed it, It is colliding with the demon.

I think i figured out the problem, but i don't know how to fix it.  Some how the center of the ship got move back, but it only show it in mission. the center is right in the cob and i don't know what to do. I'll keep trying to fix it.

----

you have two options to fix the model - one which is a MUCH better option

your light in truespace is in the WRONG SPOT the base light that glues the entire object togeather MUST be at the geometry center

you need to unglue everything and do it again and reconvert

Thanks Kazan. The light is in the right spot so I guess i'll have to unglue everthing and reconvert.

This a friendly warning Takashi, get your act together or you will get banned. If you don't have anything useful to contribute with then don't post at all, its just meaningless wast of time.

Wrong. We try to help each other out when we can, in whatever way we can. Be it actual work, or be it nothing more than constructive criticism... try to keep that in mind when posting in a topic such as this one.

its better to glue the light to the object (select the light then hit glue then the object) that to glue the object to the light. the reason being the amount of control you get oer the object center. truespace has pretty much no way of changing an objects center (not accurate, there is a way, but it requires a *cough* boolean *eew*). one of tyhe things that turned me over to max, you can edit your objeect center.

Meh. I tried to convert it but I never get anywhere. If you fail, try again. If you fail for three weeks straight and then get so frustrated you start trying to kill things in your back yard (rabbits).... Then I guess it's not healthy to continue.

I know its been awhile but it took some time to fix the problem. and i got disgusted and left it alone for awhile. But I managed to fix the centering issue. Now I just need to path, add a dock point,  it and do a few other things. I have the turrets set up, thruster glows in place and subsystems set up so hopefully this time i will have it done and bug free soon.

Snail: I've found PCS2 has solved most of my conversion issues, try testing it out with your model (first unmodified).

After several months of on and off work, I got it working. This is version one, it has one lod and no debris, but i will update it soon.
