Post by: foolfromhell on December 09, 2006, 09:22:19 pm
Wow. After FS2 the space sim world died down. Well, its BACK!
Upcoming games
Space Force 2
Chronicles of Tarra
BattlestarGalactica: Beyond the Red Line (Mod for FS2, looks professionally done, grats BSG team!)
Infinity (MMO with random star systems, procedurally generated)
Starfox: Shadows of Lylat (Another FS2 mod that looks professionally done)
Wing Commander Saga (Ditto)
The Tomorrow War
North Star (no details, but rumored to be a space sim)

This is just next year! Looks like they are rebounding!

I love the enthusiasm, but shouldn't this be in Games & Gaming?

Hopefully you're right. DarkStar One was goign to be a good game until they decided to get lazy and have only one ship in the whole game.

I don't have anywhere near that kind of power.

Anyways, Infinity looks good. Oh, and Shadows of Lylat makes me drool. Insane graphics.

It's for FreeSpace SCP ;) I was working on something similar for Twisted Infinities for a while but got seriously side-tracked, I will get back to it though, rest assured ;)

You would have thought the fact that half the BtRL team are also on the Starfox team would have tipped people off that they should expect big things from it :)

seeing that on there a bunch of times made me smile.

North Star (no details, but rumored to be a space sim)

We actually know more than that. Its an elite clone. However theres the question of how well or poorly Sword of the Stars did. Has Kerberos secured funding for North Star? Their a very small studio so its probably SOTS II or North Star. However if SOTS did well that demands a sequel and if it did poorly then how do they sign a publisher for NS?

The author has also listed both Enosta and the Tarr chronicles. Its probably the same project just retitled. That seems more likely than starting an entirely new game.

What about "Mass effect"? I still not sure yet, but it looks like Freelancer style.

that's an RPG in a simular style to Kotor or Jade empire.

Not sure about that; apparently it has Ghost-Recon-in-space type squad combat.

The HUD in TARR looks very heavily influenced by FS :) Hard to improve on something so already good, da?
