Post by: Windrunner on December 12, 2006, 07:55:46 am
Freespace and HLP are mentioned in a article on swedish gaming site. The article is about old space sims that are now free to download.

http://www.gamereactor.se/artiklar/9227/Det+v%E5ras+f%F6r+rymdspelen/#1415643

The article is in swedish but they mention HLP as a central site for Freespace.

Nice to see we got a mention. Although, not the most flattering shot of FS2, to be honest.

Nice to see the mention, but sorry to be off topic here; Bob-san, please do something with that sig. It's too big and too annoying.

I toned down the annoying part of it, but i'm keeping the link to Kara's FAQ and Snail's 7 commandments...

yeah, some people were jerks about sigs so I turned them off so I don't see them. I still keep my modestly annoying signature, though. it contains wisdom.

by the bys, isn't gamereactor some magazine too? I seem to recall some publication of that name, or a similar one.

Kode: I hope you're not calling me a jerk. I happen to like my sig very much....

Anyone have a translation? I cannot read Swedish; I can only eat Swedish Fish...

He probably refers to the people using marquee style in the sig.

But when your sig is substantially larger than your message, something's wrong.

yeah, stuff like that. And I can't tell if bob-san is a jerk from his signature as I can't see it.

I guess I can do a quick and sloppy translation of the fs2 part of it:
Quote
Freespace started as a space adventure featuring lots of action and possibilities for gigantic space battles, but after some hassle between volition and distributor Interplay, THQ took over the developers and the result was, surprisingly enough, that the source code was released freely. Since then, Freespace has literally exploded as a flexible game engine for all kinds of space games, and there are almost professional versions of Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Wing Commander, among other modifications. The Freespace fan headquarters is at Hard Light, and even if they do not presently have any direct downloads, it is a good place to start looking for it.
Yes, the article has a few factual errors, but frankly, I don't care enough to correct them.

So we should expect to hear a lot of

"I have a problem with the SCP. Bork! Bork! Bork!"

Or maybe not.

Ooh. Frontier! I tried to get hold of the geometry for that game once to mod it. Unfortunately the geometry consisted of an array of numbers embedded in the code ;)

I think we should make one big noobfriendly DOWNLOAD FS2 OPEN HERE button with link to ShivanSPS's torrent and Turey's installer or some guide on the mainpage. Many noobs are confused what to download and its causing bugs in their FreeSpaces. If i was new here i would be confused too.
