Title: Another question about scp?
Post by: Black-Devil on December 12, 2006, 05:58:21 pm
I downloaded somefiles from the SCP-Site named:  20051208-Inferno;  20051208-P4Inferno; 20051208-redmenace.

For what are those files?

They're very old CVS builds.

If you want weird crashes and table errors you can just start using modern CVS builds from the recent builds forum instead. :p

CVS???

Coordinated(?) Versioning System.

CVS builds are generally less stable than official builds. You'll probably want the most recent release build (http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/testing/rc7dot9x.rar) instead.

Basically CVS builds are where the coders add new features. You should only get them if you're planning to use the new features in a campaign or if you're willing to put up with bugs and crashes you won't get in the 3.6.9 branch builds in order have the latest graphics and features.

Either way you'll be expected to teach yourself more than someone who simply wants to play the game needs to know about the way the game works. And you'd better be willing to enter bug reports in Mantis (http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/main_page.php) if you want them to go away. :)
