Hello,
Recently I downloaded and ran the installer for FS_Open. A very nice installer, took about three hours, then I started playing. The problems started to onset, but they were minor, and I could live with it, because in 3.6.7, the movies were always very small (like a little box no bigger then 30x50 pixels in the corner of the screen). The main two problems I faced:
1. Weapons in the Weapons Loadout screen looked horrific. Models appeared of the weapons, as opposed to the tech room screens.
2. The simulated voice did not work. In other words, nothing can be heard in the techrooms.
However, the problems seemed minimal. That is, until I got to the stage in the game where the player is transfered to a bomber squadron (Act II). I looked in the Weapons Loadout, and there were the same horrible looking weapons. Problem was, they weren't Cyclopses. They wern't Tornados. They were Rockeyes. Inststead of having 10 bombs, I had 10 Rockeyes. Clearly a problem. I restarted the game. I restarted my computer. I reinstalled Freespace 2. I reinstalled FS2_Open. I created a new player file. Nothing worked. The only explanation is that FS2 Open is glitched on my machine. (Running a Dell XPS with dual core processers, should be able to handle anything).
Thanks,
Dylnuge
PS: Sol: A History does not work for me either. It gives me an error saying that a file is refrenced on the creators computer. Since I know people have sucussfuly played Sol, I am wondering if there is an updated version anywhere. Thanks.

The models can be deactivated using the launcher. Deactivate the option 'use model for selection' or whatever. I have no clue about the others.
-
Thanks. BTW: I assumed the model issue and the other issues were connected. Now that I know they are not, I have no way of checking if the Cyclopses are still unavailable. What I do know is that the simulated speech still does not work. Anyone know how to skip past a mission or unlock it in the sim room with minimal efforts (I know there are cheats, but unless they immediatly end the mission succesfully, they would take a while to implament. Blasting through the missions on Very Easy would work as well, but once again, it takes too long). Thanks.

The simulated voice was deliberately left out of that build. That's not an error. I'm sure we'll hear it once 3.6.9 Official Release comes out.
Sol: A History was never designed to work on Open. I've never gotten it to work either... :ick:
As for updated versions, Shadow0000 is supposed to be working on it, but the progress rate AFAIK is about the same as Inferno SCP's, if you get my drift.
As for the Rockeye-Replacement error (my name for it :D), well, I know that ITDOH3 had a similiar problem with its Slayer torpedoes, that turned out to have been caused by a typo in the weapons table. I find it hard to believe that all those weapons would have typos in them... but I've never worked with that installer, so who knows? If you want to check, get VP View (http://www.descent-network.com/descman/), and then you can use Notepad or Wordpad to look in the tables. Be warned, unless you want a hellish amount of problems in record time: do NOT ALTER ANY ENTRIES IN THE TABLES UNLESS YOU TRULY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
For skipping missions: use Ctrl-Shift-S in the Tech Room to instantly unlock all tech room entries (this includes missions).

This isn't the first time I've seen this sad state of affairs this week. Here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,43888.msg897779.html#msg897779)'s a solution.
As for the lack of the simulated voices, that should be an issue on the main campaign but if you want them for mods here (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/karajorma/20061213-369CVS.rar)'s a build that should fix it.

I dont like the computer simulated voice, I would just rather have it silent :P
-
Turn it off then. :p
-
why the hell is simulated voice on by default. I thought the simulated voices would over ride the recorded ones, atleast the last time I checked it did in past versions.
-
I only have the simulated voice on for missions... it doesn't make sense to have it on for briefings and tech room... it just ruins it because you can read. The voice is only good to say what's happening when you're too busy to read messages. You don't look at the message area if you are fighting a few Mara in a light fighter... it's just not smart.
-
I dont like it at all, that voice tone going up and down is really annoying.

It's not on by default AFAIK and the times it did override recorded ones were due to bug which has been fixed as far as I know.
-
it is on by default, because I remember in the past when I installed FSO it was on automaticly before aswell :P
-
I have no problems with 3.6.9 RC7 using Launcher 5.4... try using the original RC7.
Oh and the PC voice override is a glitch that happens when the computer cant immediately find a select WAV, so it just uses the simulated voice to read that since its faster. It lags for a second before the first voice, then it gets smooth.
Just turn it off if you don't want the voiceover bug... it's as simple as unchecking 3 boxes.

simulated voice is much better with SAPI 6 in windows vista. Microsoft Ana ftw.
All you need to do is get a decent voice; the default one (sam) that comes with windows sucks. At&t natural voices are good for those of you that don't have Vista.
-
The whole voice system in Vista is worlds apart from the one included in XP. TTS AND recognition. I've always had problems with lines overlapping each other with the internal TTS on XP in Freespace.
-
The vista voice system is much better then XP. Anyway, thanks for the help. Everything works fine with my new pilot. Although it feels a bit bad that I have to redo the SOC Loop (the most difficult missions lie in there).
-
SOC Loop is the most fun tho :P

Of course. Goes without saying.
