I have been playing the FS2 main campaign lately, but I have noticed a bit of a screwup.
Let's go from the top...
full retail installation, upgraded to 1.2
Media 3.6.8 Zeta VP's
Launcher 5.4
FS_Open 3.6.9 RC7 exe's
Running at max quality, AA 2x, trilinear
The problem...
Certain stars are being messed up. In the main campaign, it seems that there is a red star in every mission, where it seems there should be a white or yellow star. Anyways, the red star is tinting everything red. Now, it makes a cool effect, but it gets a bit annoying. Everything is turned to be red, especially asteroids. If I destroy an asteroid, it goes back to the normal tan/brown in the explosion, but then the chunks of rock all turn red again.
I'll post a screenshot later. I am at school now...
Oh another quick question... will FS2_Open run off of a DVD without registry installation? I want to show a few friends the game when we get back to school Jan. 2, but we are all limited users. I don't want to install anything, beyond dragging the folders to the DVD and burning it.

If your computers at school dont let registry entries to happen then you cant play at all to my knowledge. Last year when I was in high school they had a program on the computers called deep freeze or something. You could install anything you wanted, but then after you log off, it gets deleted, and the registry goes back to normal.

Lol no deepfreeze here... if there was I'd just need deep unfreeze...
Anyways my friend installed Starcraft or somethin on a bunch of the school PC's... they played for a while till all computers were turned off and the admins went to fix it...
Another friend at a different, stupid school found out the system admin's password... it was 'password'

Anyways whats with the red stars?

What card are you running on? Do you get anything similar in other games?
-
Could it have something with the new stars.tbl? BitmapX?

PNY GeForce FX5200, 128mb of memory. It seems to be an improperly named star... I have added nothing beyond Open 3.6.8 Z VP's and the older 3.6.9RC7.0 build. Nothing I saw when I had it on OEM but only after a Vanilla install... i doubt :v: would have made OEM missions differ from Vanilla mission... especially since OEM is just slightly different.
Just noticed it when I did the clean install... it was because in asteroid belts, the entire things were all red...
I didn't change anything on stars.tbl, and I have most options turned on in the launcher. Perhaps its cause I turned on MIP mapping (I think that's what it is...). Not much else differs in settings. 2x AA and Trilinear filtering. The card isnt good enough for 4x or 8xS AA.

A bit OT, but at my school we have both Deepfreeze and 50 MB max accounts (so we cannot store installers). Yet, someone loaded a Halo and CounterStrike installer into the system, inside a teacher's folder.
So, the easiest idea is to create a hidden folder on the activities and clubs network drive or the teachers network drive if you have access. Due to the size of SCP, doubt that you can get that on there (since install would take too long each time).
Just invite your friends over. :)

god dammit im having the same sun problem.
And a comment on that school computer issue, you should just get a laptop :P

If I get a laptop, the question is how well will 3D games work? A laptop with a GoForce 7600 was some 2000$, and alienware laptops have a battery life of about 12 minutes with the SLI graphics and inefficent processors. I was looking at an Asus laptop that had a GoForce 7400, Core Duo processor, 1GB of DDR2, 13.3" widescreen, and 80GB hard drive. I was drooling... but no luck for a laptop... we aren't rich like those stuckup assholes at school. THey never know when to shut up, listen to their 80GB video ipod, and leave us the hell alone. Next time they start screamin again on the bus, I wanna get out a roll of Duct Tape and tape em to the seat with their mouth closed.
Anyways we have 150mb files and I have a 200mb file...
So whats the problem as far as you can see? it seems to me a mixup in naming schemes.

I just had to start my comp over from scratch but luckily have some work and FS Installs on an external HD. FS is not installed in reg but ran fine off the External (just booted it up today to check). I just had to use launcher and reassign correct .exe and location.
So if you got a small one maybe an external drive is your answer?
Are your comps set up for plug and play usb's?

I would prefer to run off a DVD... I'd get in so much trouble if I was caught copying all the stuff for FSO onto the Multimedia CLub's folder...
I'll try off a DVD.
