800x600 is always a good one to use for most people. Gamers can usually be counted on for 1024x768 or higher.
I personally run 1280x1024 on each monitor on my gaming rig, and 1152x864 on each monitor of my other machine. My machine at work runs 1152x864 on the central monitor, and 1024x768 on the left and right monitors.

90% of ppl use 1024x768.
-
i'm using 1152x864
-
I have it set to 1152x864 but as Carl said, the common one these days is 1024x768. (most computers I have seen are set to that by default)
-
1152x864x32 (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

For work i use 1280x1024 and for other applications I use 1024x768.
my one observation of 800x600 is it gives you absolutely no space to put anything in.
Having said that...a really good design is one that looks good and has space at all resolutions..
take a look a www.projectseven.com ("http://www.projectseven.com") (i think)

1024*768. My crappy 17" doesn't support higher resolutions.
-
the minimum size of that is somewhere between 8*6 i am going for 1024*768 anyone with a smaller res should not even think there machine to be a computer rather a heep of ****e (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) j/k

I would go with 8x6 myself- I run my screen at 1280 but I don't like pages that I have to fill the entire screen with to see. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

with 8*6 u have little space to view anything, this site is designed to hold a chunky amount of info, not 3 lines per page and thats it

If you design for 800x600, you'll be able to get a pretty reasonable chunk of data onto the screen. A good navigation system will be essential of course.
You know, you could alwasy dodge the whole issue and do a large and small version using cascading stylesheets. Let the user select their resolution, store it in a cookie, and then reference that cookie to determine which stylesheet loads.

1280x1024 here, but I'd reccomend designing for 1024x768.
-
i would have it on 1280x1024 but it hurts my eyes
-
I can hit the 1500s on my good comp, but it makes my brains ache and I can't read text... so stick with 1200.
-
hehe, I once tried 1920x1440 (monitor's maximum) but the text was tiny; my eyes were hurting after five minutes of looking at it... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
Really? Mine just gets blurry. And the screen balloons, but I can fix that.
-
1280x1024
my new year's resolution
just like last year.

Eh, that hurts my eyes. I prefer 800x600.

If you have a picture or mod you want hosted, just email me at [email protected] and I can post it on SubSpace Zero. We've got unlimited space(well, nearly :) )

No way, 1280x1024 is the only way to go...
-
1600x1200
-
Depends on the size of the monitor really; I was used to 1024x768 on my old 19" monitor, and 1152x768 on a 21" monitor produces roughly the same text size. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Anyway, my vision sucks. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (not sure about the eye numbers but the glasses are rated at 7.5/8.25 :P )

kazan said it with 16*12 thats the best, ample space for coding
