Title: maybe a change of scenery
Post by: Centrixo on December 15, 2006, 04:51:29 pm
ive been thinking about this for along time, the orginal C&C and Tiberian Sun C&C, had these intros of the person who you get your orders from, ive been wondering, you have a window below the main writing in command breifing, shove the video clip thier and make sure the character person in question follows the line exactly, more interaction with the crew.

ive already made a list of for example who you get your orders from for a specific mission(s) on a massive campaign, but cant find a way of this happening unless someone wants to try.

Adimral - Vic Mahalar, Mexican: Sol

Vice Adimral - Edward Tocswerk, Canadian: Sol

Rear Adimral - Lusinda Zariase, Alpha Territory: Delta Serpentis
Rear Adimral - Saul Xander, GTC Sarrak: Deneb

Commodore - Tierry Murdock, Space Station: Tau Sigma
Commodore - Rick Gassas, Space Station: Antares
Commodore - Jiero Hakkiaben, Finland: Sol

Captain - Rocky West, Alpha Territory: Delta Serpentis
Captain - Olivier Da lisie, France: Sol

Commander - Karlos Soard, GTD Alexsi: Deneb

Lieutenant Commander - Ben Rice, GTM Galan: Capella
Lieutenant Commander - Burke Salsin, Zeta Territory: Delta Serpentis
Lieutenant Commander - Darrak Askerbik, Cygnus Prime: Deneb

Lieutenant - Zsolt Unsaro, NTC Camisard: Epsilon Pegasi
Lieutenant - Quintyne Braant, American: Sol
Lieutenant - Sofia de la Carasso, Spanish: Sol

Lieutenant junior grade - Freddie Raddoc, GTD Aquitaine: Vega
Lieutenant junior grade - Yavonne Plater, Alpha Territory: Delta Serpentis
Lieutenant junior grade - Lucas Walker, Space Station: Regulus

Ensign - Herve Plaiux, GTVA Collosus: Epsilon Pegasi
Ensign - Taras Ladad, GTSC Farrax: Procyon
Ensign - Julien Harsen, Space Station: Mirfax

- all names i came up within 2 minutes, all random.

maybe that could add some desperatly needed interaction instead of heading into another fight with a shivan or (Rebel Terror cause) RTC, or (Neo-Terran Front) NTF or whatever. its just a thought.

anyone else got a plan in mind that you thought of but never tested? i would like to see them.

FMV's are generally retarded IMO, and I think the general consensus is that the acting in them is very lackluster, to say the least.

On top of that, I'm not particularly fond of the idea myself - too many characters, too much story clutter, and it doesn't really feel FS2 ish at all.

I say:

NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER

give Alpha 1 an identity other than simply, Alpha 1. Ever.

But I didn't really get your first post anyway...

He wants to have every mission have a little FMV video of a person actually saying the briefing. Kind of like Mechwarrior 4.

That's how I understood it, anyway.

You would need to have really horrible quality videos to make it not take up that much HD space. So small, that it would defeat the purpose of having them. Plus, you have the mission layout screen to be looking at during the briefing. It would require a tremendous amount of actors, too. I think the briefings are fine the way they are.

I did a crap ton of avi's briefs for Robotech. But back then it was easy, I just ripped the DVD's and had a tv to pc input/recording usb thingy.

But I do agree that a "Little" more depth in briefs could enhance the FS2 experience long as it doesn't become too distracting and stay on track content wise.

maybe a add-on, if someone is willing to play only one person, created a suit and a grey backdrop with gtva logo in the background, talking about the objective. but its up to you guys.

Many of the command briefings in FS1 were originally intended to be cutscenes (CGI style, not with real actors) but were dropped due to time constraints. From the scripts in the FS reference bible, it looks like they would have been extremely good. Although it would be way too much work for a fanmade project.

Maybe you should do it, rather than asking us all to do it :p

I hate when people say stuff like that...

Then again this isn't modeling where people lose their patience and give up after a half an hour ( ) so maybe you SHOULD try doing it yourself, Centrixo. I'm sure it would be just as good if any of us did it. Unless your like 12 years old. It would be rather strange having briefings from a kid like that. (No offense if you are twelve years old) :)
