Post by: Rictor on December 18, 2006, 06:51:45 pm: No, you're right, that's creepy as hell. I think partly because it walks to organically when clearly it isn't, and partly because the legs are thin little insect legs while the body is huge. It just looks twisted.

Post by: Unknown Target on December 18, 2006, 06:56:44 pm: What I think is kind of funny, especially in that last video of RiSE, is how they're all wearing hard hats, safety glasses, and ear protection, when all they're doing is following a tiny robot around (in the case of RiSE), or following a big robot around (in the case of BigDog).

Creepy creepy **** there. But, I was quite impressed with it traversing the really rough ground, that was pretty amazing actually. For some reason, I have a mental image of these carrying wounded soldiers away from enemy lines, looks like a gurney with legs!

Anyway, I saw this on tv month or two ago. They had the "Front" legs normal until they tried an experiment and reverse them and now the climbing capability is greatly enhanced in this configuration, stability was not affected much. The quadraped format is highly stable as is.

I agree. Throw some guns and rocket launchers on this "puppy" and let her rip!!! :lol:

Would I scream like a girl and run off in random direction, blinded by pure raw fear produced by the terror I encountered? Hell yeah! Wouldn't you? :shaking:

It's a neat thingy. Now to think of a commerical application... Perhaps a shopping cart that follows you home?
