Title: Bushfires closing
Post by: Setekh on January 01, 2002, 03:35:00 am
At present, the bushfires are getting really close. They just overtook a suburb about 6 or 7 kilometres from my house. If I disappear for a while... well, you'll have an educated guess as to what happened.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

Wouldn't that be fun...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) One of the few times when a GTVA freighter would be handy for something...Just one comment on those dudes starting the fires (if I understood correctly)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)

Oh, it'll be Jerusalem alright.

*sigh* I can only take a few things... I'll be leaving a lot behind. Hopefully none of it'll happen at all and I won't have to leave, but I can see the fire now, lighting the smoke over the horizon (it's 2120 right now, so dark night, but with an artificial sunrise).  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

Yeah, that and your KryoII since you only just bought that - it's fairly small as well.

Edit: Whats the Aus authorities doing to stop this? It sounds... very large but I haven't had a chance to read about it for a couple of days... can something be done or are you waiting for it to die out?

Unfortuneately I don't think there's very many things you can do to stp a fire of this size apart from backfires.

Anyhow Good Luck Setekh (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

What do they need? A refitted GTVA Colossus-firefighter version.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) 45 water tanks, 15 foam guns, 12 lithium batteries and 12 big squirt guns  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Ummm the situation is sort of  under control  but what a smoky Sydney....
I'm about 3000 kms North from there at present  but I follow the development of the situation on TV often enough  and it's sort of contained.
If I was in Sydney I'd be shooting the images for channel seven NEWS like I did every year so far.
Backburning has began as soon as there was a break in the wind  and it is now paying off.
A few words of coursing to the firebugs  that have caused most of this mess...
"I would not urinate on you if you were on fire..."  "burn sucker, burn!"

Any way...  to everyone here,  have a safe and happy 2002!

Setekh, cheen up dude!  She'll be right mate!

Damn, that must suck. I saw something on TV, about the fireworks show happening under a heavy smoke from the fires. Hope everything goes okay.

Or you could just move in with me.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)  Only thing you'd have to worry about here is the stupid old farts poking along at 30mph in a 70mph zone.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

Good luck, Setekh. I can remember being trapped in the 1994 fires, and I hope you don't have to go through the same thing...

By the time the support arives the outer ring of sydney could already be burned so it would arrive to late and they have more firemen arriveing from all over the country.

Setekh: when i heard about it the first thing i tought of was is Setekh ok. Good luck my friend.
