Here are the ship and weapons tables from FSport v2.3.  These contain both the FS1 and FS2 ships and weapons.

Keep in mind that several ships changed between FS1 and FS2.  The most dramatic change was the SD Demon, which gained 60% in hull strength.  But there are other smaller balance changes (with the Horus, for example).  It's probably not a good idea to use them at the same time.

Actually, the table names between the 2 have different Item Nams. PVF became GTF, if I recall correctly, between FS1 and FS2 so there should be little to no collision except in the case of model replacement tables possibly.

The shivan vessels are the biggest problem point, as they haven't shifted allegiance or faction at all.

Considering G5K is one of the primary people in the Port, I'd probably believe him when he says it's not a good idea... but that's just me.  :doubt:

Actually, PVF became GVF.

And that is probably the weakest argument you could possibly make against combining the two mods.  It's easily rendered moot by using the Alt Name feature.  No, you have to examine the two sets of tables thoroughly, which is what we did when creating version 3.0.  The Demon has 60% more hull strength, as I already mentioned.  The Horus has improved flight characteristics.  Some ships have primary weapon subsystems swapped with secondary weapon subsystems.  Nearly all ships have modified scores.  The Prometheus is different from the Prometheus S, and the FS1 Hornet is different from the FS2 Hornet.  And those are just the issues I remember offhand.  There were dozens of differences, most small but some major (like the Demon).  I could recompare the two mods if you wanted the full list of differences, but I trust you've gotten the point by now.

If you really wanted to run the FS2 and FS1 ships side-by-side, you'd have to combine the two tables without overlapping any ships, which would be a pain in the neck in addition to being too large for the 130 ship class limit.  If you want to use the FS1 ships without FS2 compatibility problems, the only solution is to get rid of the overlapping FS2 ships.  And if you're getting rid of the overlapping FS2 ships, you may as well get rid of all of them, since you'll be running the Port as a mod anyway.  As compensation, we decided to throw in a bunch of FS1-era mods to fill up the ship roster a bit, but we were really under no obligation to do that.

A wise man. :)

Hiya G5K,

Ya, noted. If you don't mind me being inquisitive re: the port tables -- for a moment disregarding the poetic license employed in the description of the GTW - 99 Railgun  ;7 -- I's just wondering why you guys used names such as "Fang" and "Havoc" for the new weapons when there were "semi-official" names available from the Alpha version of Descent: FreeSpace, such as the "Angelfire Missile" and the "Shrike Missile"? I think it'd be a way kewl nod to the :v: team to finally have those available. The original "Mag Pulse Missile" isn't that different from your "Havoc Missile", either, what with originally a damage of 10, velocity of 200 and a fire wait of 1.0, et cetera. And so on. And so forth. There weren't actually that many weapons that were dropped, and most of them simply got new names.

FreeSpace Alpha-Only Weaponry
Mass Driver
• Damage: 40
• Velocity: 240
• Fire Wait: .15
Neutron Flux
• Damage: 30
• Velocity: 300
• Fire Wait: 30
Mag Pulse Missile
• Damage: 10
• Velocity: 200
• Fire Wait: 1.00
Shrike Missile
• Damage: 45
• Velocity: 130
• Fire Wait: 1.0
Angelfire Missile
• Damage: 60
• Velocity: 100
• Fire Wait: 1.0

Ya, that list is very real, and verified. But you know all of this already, no? Is it too late to introduce those? Whaddya say? Is this good for yet another topic? Should I shut up now?

Cordially,

You'll have to ask GalacticEmperor, as he was the one who came up with them. :) I think they were supposed to be PVN-only weapons, though.

It's too late to change the names, since there are a few mods which use the new weapons.  But there's probably nothing preventing us from adding the alpha weapons.  Do you have the alpha tables?  Can you send them along? :)

Ya, I sorta thought that.

Nah, sorry, dude. I would if I could. The above list is the only info ever released about them Alpha weapons. There wasn't a huge Alpha/Beta test of FS, anyways, so there's no "leaked alpha version" (Warcraft 2 Alpha, anyone?) floating around. The above was only what was revealed to reporters once upon a blue moon.
