These last few i've been trying to improve my modelingskillz and managed to produce this shipyard. Kinda basic, but looks terran.
Because it's rather large, 1280x1024 @ 230 kb, i thought i'd save 56k-ers some time by linking to it instead.
View It! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/naughty.gif) (//"http://w1.520.telia.com/~u52019065/Fleetyard.jpg")
- Made in MAX (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
- Added the black background, to give it a cinematic feel, in Photoshop. No other changes made in Photoshop
- converted to .JPG in Photoshop.
Happy New year btw (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Looks nice, although it really could use some more detail.
Interesting to know that Deimos corvettes are produced upside down. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
Um, the Hecate is upsidedown not the Demois or mabye...its space and thus there is no up or down.

Why do I think this hecate must really cost a lot of bucks? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
but maybe gold isn't worth anything anymore in FS2 (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I wonder if her sister-ship will be called Ivana. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Tha looks really good, Ryx.
The only thing I would change is the central structure. There's no immediately obvious way to move materiel and people from habitat areas down to the two drydocks (this is also my big problem with my own shipyard, Raindance Station). Aside from that though, its gorgeous.

Thanx! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
I reasoned that 'structure' on the end is a habitat for... eh 'out-system' workers and that there would be arcadias and other structures nearby for 'local' workers.
Since the hangar is close by the construction area, i figured, you'd have machine-shops and stuff located nearby. People would be moved primarily through the central beam. Or small shuttlecraft perhaps.

Maybe they found a planet made out gold, therefor, gold is the least valued material now (aside from worthless light photons)
-
Probably alot of valuable material on Earth is not so highly valued in FS,although with a higher population the demand for gold would increase but with Earth cut off the demand would plummet probably.

Did you type that or just cut/copy and paste my exact words? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Its a neat idea...i dont think that a single shipyard would be handling that many vehicles at once though.
Just keep working into it and adding more details.
The starfield looks good...is that done with cellular or is it the vpost filter?

perhaps not corvettes in that quantity, but cruisers perhaps.
Noise and multi-pass depth-of-field or something like that. It ain't fast, but it looks good. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

The deimos are way too small compared to the hecate btw (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

They look about right to me....
-
MAX asked if it should resize imported models, and i clicked yes on all of the models i have for freespace.
-
Anyway, even if gold were cheap... would you want to armor a ship wit one of the best conducting metals available? and one of the softest metals? There would be so many applications in electronics for good-quality gold...
And the shipyard probably should be more... substantial. Just becasue for some reason people keep making shipyards that essentially are bars holding ships in place, doesn't mean it's a good design. I'd recommend leaving the ribs on, but putting a solid sheath all the way down studded with doors for mechanical gear, said gear, etc. on the inside and with those ribs sticking out slightly on the oustide to provide visual interest.
Also, wouldn't it be great to have a big, Deimos- shaped mold at the end? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Serioiusly, don't do that last one.
