All 3 are in preliminary hacked-up state,
Using rejected bits and pieces remaining when I was working on saga's corvette, it'll get a new detailing before it's finished, some sections windows are the wrong size, etc...etc..etc..
Frigate class

I was looking for something to replace the corvette main body, then i realized i had a modified fralthi 2 sitting going no wheres, so this becomes a cruiser
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/Kat-destroyer1.jpg)
and a Jalekhi

The Jalekhi definitly looks great IMO. If you could redo the other WC2 ships in that design I would even reconcider to use them.

awesome.
p.s. what is wing commander? i keep seeing people making ships based on it and stuff, what is it?
-
Well at least he sisn't mention the movie! :p
Wing commander was a blockbuster figher simm on the heels of X-wing versus Tie fighter. The Premise was Humans called the Confederation in conflict with a feline race of Tony the Tigers called the Kilrathi (loosely based on the Kizinti or Trek and man Kzin Wars books).
Most Notable was Wing Commander 3 where mark Hamil (LUKE) played Colonel Blair along with Malcolm Mcdowell(Sp?) as Admiral Tolwyn. John-Rhys Davies had a supporing role. Ginger Lynn (porn star) was chief mechaninc in charge of your "Load Outs".... ;7
Yes you can tell I loved that game... I had it on the panasonic 3do and it blew the PS1 version away cause I bought it again for ps1 after losing my 3do years ago.
-
"Feline race"? O.o;;; I'm sure that's just one of the many reasons why the WC movie is regarded so poorly 'round here - the Kilrathi didn't look feline at all to me... *shrug*
OT: Why do I notice a definite parallel in styling between Shivan and Kilrathi vessels? And by that I mean the thick spikes, especially remeniscent of the Ravana's front end. Looks nifty, and very well modeled (although not quite my cup of tea).
-
The movie was barely "wing commander"... just the names ::)
Wc3 and 4 models were barely spikey, very low polygons, in fact the carriers didn't even have a real fighter bay in 3, they used a texture that looked 3d LOL. Course you've got to remember, no 3d GPU's, heck i don't even think 3d video cards were around yet. In fact Wc3 & 4 was still DOS based. Now Wc1 was somewhat spikey, but thats a whole nother ballgame.
WC1 & 2 used pure 2d, similar tech. used in Doom 1&2. They created models positioned them in a specific angle, rendered them, and used the resulting image for the game. If you were facing a ship at angle X, then the program would use the closest saved image that corresponds to that angle. (i.e. viewing a ship at 10 degrees, it would show the front one picture (0 degree). The models themselves have been lost to time. Hence all the images you see of wc1&2 stuff look like bitmaps, is because they were just that. :)

Ah... lovely history lesson. ;) As a by-note, I cleared up my own confusion with a google image search - I saw the movie but never played the games, so for anyone in the same boat as me (and curious)... it seems the producers/director decided the WC movie Kilrathi would be more fearsome without fur. That, combined with the scale-like armor and often green (almost slimy) foggy settings of Kilrathi interiors made them seem a lot more reptilian than feline (hence my confusion). Screens and shots of the games' Kilrathi give them fur and fluff. [/hijack]
On topic, the Jalekhi looks quite good but that cross-brace across the front viewport puzzles me. Not bad, just seems a bit random. Of course, I'm comparing that to the symetry in the sprite-profiles you posted...
-
Yes less said about the so called "Movie" the better... (throw it in the trunk with Galactica80) It never happened! :)
Anyway, Hey Scooby. I got a old snakier model somewhere. Wanna work some magic on it?

YES PLEASE!!!! However the snakier doesn't seem to be a carrier, wheres the flight bay anyways? I see it's also classified as a heavy dreadnaught. I do see it as a cruiser through.

The main hull (and wings) are parts from a Vaktoth. WC3/4/5 kilrathi ships are asymmetrical. WC 1 was symmetrical, WC 2 was symmetrical and round LOL I'm trying to bring in symmetry back while maintain some asymmetrical.

Crap.. Ask Tolwyn is they ever kept the file I linked to back in the day. It might be on the drive I cant access ATM (I just looked at my other areas I keep ship stuff). Sorry.
Think I originally got it off a link from WC CIC site. 3-4 years ago.

wait, what about the one of wcmdf.com?

I totally forgot about this one, in fact only because it showed up on a google search

The bloodfang and Jrathek are done.
The Dralthi mk5 might be useable as mk 3 (or is that 2?).
I posted a sartha pic a month or two ago.
You've already got a gothri.
I kinda like the Strakha's original appearance, it might be todo list soon
and as for the Grikath, it lives on somewhat as a Pakriss.

That be the critter! What you think, is it worth salvaging? :nervous:
-
Turrets need to be redone, except that massive one in the center that one I like :D although they do need to be scaled down a weeee bit, they look like they can't rotate, which is pretty useless since their not fleet/ptc type weapons.
Finally found the fighter bays, interesting position, i kinda like where they are
the bottom fins, i don't know what to do about, maybe something more fang like, or blockier.
The really high bridge isn't really necessar, looks too human, that nose/face section in the middle looks more like a bridge section to me.
the intakes are really too big, way bigger than anything i've made, although having them there is one less problem for me ;)
other than that it looks like a good place to start
oh btw..... does it remind you of macross ships?
-
Not really... I looked really hard and closest I can envision is an alpha fighter maybe(?) from the engines and rear tail assembly... Is that what you meant? :D
-
I redid parts of the sartha... i wasn't pleased with the orignal results

Nose is too round IMO, otherwise looks good :)

I've started playing with it, i needed something to distract me from tomorrow so I started playing with it....
Prognosises: Its going to take quite a bit of work cleaning up the base model, theres holes all over the model, you can't really see them but they show up in shading and definetely while uvmapping. Their not too hard to cleanup, target weld vertices does the job. Also theres quite a bit of intercetting going on, thats going to be tougher to clean up (at least the large scale items). Other than that... so far so good :)

Also throw FOX's Doctor Who movie in that trunk
