Hi. When i run fs2_open 3.6.9 ad go into the tech room hardly any ships are showing, some have the shinemaps, i ran the debug mode and it cam p with this:

run the debug mode in OpenGL and post first 40 lines of fs.log again.

Works in OpenGL, graphis arent as gd as d3d but i think it is a d3d prob, do u still want the fs log?

Try turning up all detail options in-game. From what either Kara or Taylor has told me, D3D doesn't respect your detail settings, while OpenGL does. So D3D automatically maxes out all settings, which makes it look better than OpenGL if you don't turn all your settings up.
It could also be a driver problem. ATI drivers tend to be better at D3D than OpenGL, while Nvidia drivers tend to be better at OpenGL than D3D. (though my Mobility Radeon 7500 has never given me cause to complain.) You might try updating your graphics card drivers, or maybe someone else knows the best driver for your card.
Also, if you want to make FreeSpace Open look better, grab the adveffects mediavp. (and the 710 patches if you don't have them)

put alldetails at the highest but still no difference, im trying a driver update

Have you tried using -ambient_factor 50 or something in the custom command line flags.
