Ok, FRED hates me - and im beginning to hate it, either.
In my latest mission, I've got an Iceni ass frigate (GTFg Lima), which is attacked by Nephilim-Bombers and several shivan warships. That means, it is SUPPOSED to be attacke, because the shivans just refuse to follow their orders. I've also added add-goal SEXPs, but nothings works. They ignore the figate and nuke me and my wingmen instead.
In an older mission, I had this problem, too, with the same ship class.
Here's the mission and two *.tbm you need for: [link removed]

You might want to mention the classes of Shivan warships you are telling to do the attacking, and the class of the ship you are telling them to attack

I'm sorry but that's too funny a typo to let past remarked

Hmmmm. I can't see anything you've done wrong on a quick look-through of your mission. The Lima isn't protected and the wing has orders instead of the individual ships.
You could try ticking the no dynamic goals box for Gemini wing (In the wings editor). That will make them as dumb as pig**** though.
If you suspect it's a problem with the class of ship that is under attack make a much simpler mission that you can test with (Just have an iceni jump in then the enemy wing jump in a few seconds later and see what they do).

i had a similar problem
i got a Deimos corvette being attacked by a Hecate destroyer, the deimos fires its beam salvos ok but the hecate just flies around and doesnt shoot a single energy round at the ship.
the Hecate was supposed to destroy the Deimos covette so i had to set a self destruct on the Deimos after 22 seconds game play.
-
For beam-armed capships, you can always use the fire-beam SEXP to force the issue. No need to mess around with self destruct. For the bombers though, aside from no dynamic goals (which will force you to babysit them with new goals or just accept the singlemindedness it results in), I can't really think of anything.
-
Some classes of big ship will only attack other equally large classes of ship. Some weapons are flagged to only fire at big ships.
-
If the problem is with the capships and not the bombers you should take a look at your firing arcs. The Hecate in particular couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from certain angles.

Oooops. Some really big **** happened here. :D

I did that and in the test mission, there were no probs. I also set the Lima again in the mission or changed the ship class. Nothing helped. In the test mission, I had no problems.

Try to remake the mission... that's my only recommendation. Sometimes missions are saved buggy. What AI class are you using for each ship?
-
no thats not it, i want this hecate to destroy the Deimos corvette and i even try to force the issue as you said beam-lock-all but that still made no difference, i also adjust the ship to different angle, but guess what? no beam salvos going off.
after that i decided to add a cruiser in there and the hecate practically destroyed it as soon as the mission started.. but never touched the corvette, now im just plain confused.

AI class... hm, never thought of that. The Lima has got "General". Overwise I use this with ALL capital ships in my missions and had this problem only twice yet - and both times with the Lima.

??
With the fire-beam SEXP (I suppose you meant that, not the beam-lock ;)) it should work. Whereas... I thought the same about the add-goal SEXPs... ::)

Ok tried that, nothing still.. right its one of those dead ends that cant be resolved, i will leave it at that.

I've had that happen before (no clue why) I delete the mission and make from scratch do NOT save over the old one. Hope that helps...

Been a long time since I've done any Fred stuff. Until last night that is. Anyways I took a look at the mission and have a couple of thoughts. These quarks may be fixed but existed in retial. First you have 2 inital orders for Gemini wing. Both are at 50. Try bumping the attack to 90. Also bump the AI up from captain. Second and probably better would be to take the attack order out of the wing and add it to the "gemini here" event. Last idea would be to open up the mission in notepad and delete the Gemini ships and wing. Create the wing in temp mission and then copy the wing and ships back into the mission. Don't know if there is checking for this now but it used to only take 1 missing ( or ) to cause weird problems. Spent hours conting them to make sure they balanced out. Think I even wrote a prorgam to count them.

This will happen to me occasionaly. Make sure that none of your ships are given DISABLE orders, because they will refuse to attack any target that another wing is supposed to disable. For example, say Alpha and Beta are ordered to attack the Lucifer, and Charlie is to disarm Lucy. Even if Charlie gets wiped out, Alpha and Beta will ignore their "attack" orders because they want to leave the ship intact for the disable operation. ::) If :V: was smart they wouldn't have done it this way, just wanted to tell you this to save everyone the frustration that the "disable/disarm bug" caused me.
-
I'll trade you AI. I can't get mine to not attack even when ordered to do so. :D Heck they even attack neutral ships for no reason.
-
This sounds like a FOX TV special. "WHEN THE AI REFUSES TO ATTACK!"
