I try't everything but just can't connect to the host cpu, it's driving me crazy, i think i'm gonna kick all the cpu stuff out of the window, does anyone know how to set it up.

What do you mean by "network", we'll start with that, then work on what kind of computers you have... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
My Computer--->Control Panel--->Network
File and Print Sharing...-->Check I want to be able to give others access to my files
Right click on what you want them to be able to access and click on Sharing
Ta-da
That should work...

Question: Are you trying to setup a LAN or trying to connect your machine to a LAN that is already set up?

Check that both machines are in the same workgroup.
Try searching for the other computer.

Also, make sure that you have the necessary protocols installed. (ie: TCP/IP and NetBEUI)

Um, this is a dumb question, but do you have an ethernet hub?
Most likely, so next would be is file sharing enabled on both computers. Also, did you manually assign IP addresses(192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, etc) to your LAN computers. the server should be the first one. The netmask should be 255.255.255.000. I have the same type of configuration if you need more help.

Umm....you don't need to be a hacker to get someone's IP dolt. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) For example, if you're in IRC all someone has to do is /whois you.
While we're on this subject, unless you're some kind of paranoid tuit scared to get online, thats not going to matter. Just run a firewall (or get a Linksys router which has a firewall built-in). Its not hacker-proof (name one thing that is, besides somethign totally disconnected from the world) but atleast you'll be reasonably safe.

I did every dam thing what you guys say and it's still not working, all the hardware is good, but nm i kickt the dam hub's and ethernetcards out of the window.
-
It prolly is the cable. Take an ohm meter to each pin and check to be sure. If you don't get "OL" (zero load) then the cable is bad.
