Title: GTF Eagle class

i'm working on the GTF Eagle class of multi-role fighter, a basic fighter meant to be very versatile. i hav a problem, which is th reason i'm posting this......  ummmmm..... i'm not sure what programs i have to download. i know i have to download modelview an wincob2fs or whatever is called. im not sure if i have to download anything else, and i need to download VPvew. anything else?


I'm also working on the Windsor light-cuiser and the Majestic class transport.

I think you need PCS as well, but then, I'm no modeler... just making a sphere in Truespace is about as far as my accomplishments in that field go... :p

You need a modeling program, unless you're using ready-made models. I recommend Truespace because its free, check one of the threads called 'This may be useful' or something like that. But if you can you could get 3DSMax but that's very expensive. You need PCS since Modelview cannot make thrusters or paths.

Oh, and one more thing. You names are not uniform to the standard GTVA naming convention. The GTVA uses Greek names, such as Hercules, Zeus, etc. There is a massive list of Greek names on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Greek_mythological_characters). If you're making Vasudan ships check out this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_egyptian_mythology_topics). Shivan ships use demonic or indian names, so check out List of Demons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_demons). I really like Wikipedia, you can tell. :P

What program(s) are you making the models with? There is a MAX plugin to pof now (rumored to be unstable).

Wincob is for archetecture, I've had very mixed results with that.

PCS is what I try first then if it fails I fall back on Modelview for making .pofs...

I suggest you Google Freespaceoracle for Kara's site with more tools and info you need on modding in general.

i'm using truespace 3.2 right now, and i kinda knew i would need PCS, but i wasn't sure.


BTW, thanks snail for the links to wikipedia.

EDIT: what do you think of the GTF Alcyone? I'm gonna try and put some pictures up, just dunno how..........
