I literally just looked at the Athena Mk II download and went absolutely nuts over the fact that such a beautiful ship is back on Freespace *and* the fact that there's even an inside model of the canopy. This made me wonder if anyone has gone as far as to making cockpit models for the other ships.
-
Most of the small terran ships in the mediavps have interior cockpits.
-
And I take it that in that statement you are meaning the small terran ships from the latest vps right? (I don't have the latest ones yet, too lazy to download but if theres something like that in them then I'll go for it)

from the 3.6.8 Zeta mediavps, yes.
-
Are you referring to the transparent canopy or there's actually a solid cockpit in first-person? I don't know what mediavps means. ::)

mediavps (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html)
Any cockpit that you can see the pilot inside of can be made to show the control panel in first person view. It's just a matter of moving the eyepoint and editing the table file.
-
Oh no...editing...what's a table file?
-
Most of them should have the pilot/eye already in the correct position. You'd just need to add "show ship" to the ship flags in ships.tbl.
-
How do I do that? :wtf:
-
make a text file, call it cockpit-shp.tbm. put this in it for every ship you want to show:
#Ship Classes
$Name: GTF Ulysses
+nocreate
$Flags: ( "Show Ship" )
$Name: GTF Loki
+nocreate
$Flags: ( "Show Ship" )
$Name: GTB Ursa
+nocreate
$Flags: ( "Show Ship" )
#End
then put it in C:\Games\FreeSpace2\mediavps\data\tables\
-
what about ships like both hercs, apollo and others that dont have it in the correct persion when you add the "show ship" command? how can we edit them into the correct position? has anyone already figured out what IS the correct position for these ships?
-
extract them from the .vp files and open them up in modelview! (found in both tureys installer and karajormas FAQ)
-
Where can i get the Athena Mk II pof Model and not the rar. file?

I don't know any other way of editing a viewpoint (eye point) other than editing the pof itslef (either using PSC or Modelview32).
Sadly, some of the models have a really f**** up eye point position or a rather obstructive cockpit view (a lot due to the hud panel that's in front of you and is not made transparent...sheesh)
-
Ive inquired a couple times if this was going to be fixed in the next edition of mvps or not. So, I'm sure someone heard though i didn't get much of a reply.
-
man...i hope they fix it soon. the obstructive panels are annoying, or in the case of the herc one, the customized gauges.
-
the herc 1 doesn't line up in such a way where you can see the instrument pannels

The Aphaea?!? You can't DL it...it's from INFA2...
Instrument pannels are nicely detailled. Unfortunately, members like Snail hate them.

im talking abou the one from the HTL release thread, not the mvp one
-
Actually they're starting to warm me up some... :nervous:
WHY AM I SO EASILY SWAYED!?!!
-
Because you hate cockpit views?
-
"im sure they will remove those stupid panles in the 3.6.9 mediavps." ::)
-
IMO, I think that the non-cockpitted models looked cool because they reflected the background which looked cool.

They're not stupid when you disable jpg tga texturing...
"Hey! they're transparant now!"
As for the cockpit models... I only need to upload them.
-
"and now the cockpits still give weird effects when aspect lock moves onto your instrument panels"
seriously...they should fix that.

i thought they still did reflect, except when theres nothing to reflect you see straight through
-
Um, disabling the -jpgtga flag is a rather unwise move, since it's required to properly display a number of textures used by the game. In fact, at some point in the future (whether 3.6.10 or 3.7, I'm uncertain), the flag won't be available in the launcher and will be enabled by default. If there's a problem with some of the cockpit textures, ask someone who's knowledgeable about how they're rendered to take a look at them and see if they can be corrected.
-
Really stupid question:
How do you enable cockpit viewing?
(Braces for smack round the head)

It is in the latest head build (thats how I discovered it) but DDS textures now go first. The good model seems to be a DDS one.
