I'm a newbie, so forgive if this topic has already been posted (I SEARCHED FOR IT AND DIDNT FIND, SO DONT FLAME ME PLZ ! :( )
Anyhow, I've been getting a crash while playing the Derelict campaign (and other campaigns, i simply cant run at all ), and i investigated this, and found that i need to run it in FS retail format (This means to select browse in the launcher, then open the official FS retail exe, right ? )
Anyhow, whenever i try it, i get this error : -
Freespace has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. (You know, those annoying pop-ups that shut down whatever your doing).
The error report is the following : -
AppName : fs2.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: unknown
ModVer : 0.0.0.0 Offeset : 00000000
Now, from what it looks like, it appears both my FS2 -and- my FSO are out-of-date versions, but this cant be ! I downloaded my Freespace from www.the-underdogs.net (couldnt buy FS2 anywhere), and the zip readme told me that this FS2 was the latest version ! and im using the latest FSO version as well !!
Help please ??????? I'm stuck ! :(

You're not supposed to run the retail EXE with FSOpen Launcher as far as I know (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me...) :nervous:
I think you need to use the original Launcher utility to configure it right and run it without the FSOpen command lines.
Another thing that crossed my mind... Did you download and install the 1.21 patch from official pages before using FSOpen enhancements? I don't know if the HOTU version is already patched up, but it can't hurt either.
Oh, and btw:
:welcome:

The original ~250MB HotU version was not patched. The new version (Which has been available from their website for nearly a year and is over 600MB in size) is already patched to v1.2.
You can run retail with the SCP launcher but there is really no good reason why you should do so. If you've installed FS2 correctly the original launcher will work.
So what is likely going on here is a badly installed version of FSO. My advice is to clean up your install following the advice here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/installingfs2_open.html#upgrade) and then use Turey's online FS2_Open installer (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html) to make sure you get the files in the right places.

ok first off, never use a launcher for a program its not for, secondly, dont get your copy from underdogs, its a ****ty copy. Try my online installer and then use tureys open installer for the rest. It should give you every file you need.

I take exception to that. If you're going to install SCP on top of it and never use retail it's a pretty good copy. Using the online installer on top of HotU will give you pretty much the same set up and it's pretty silly to force a user to download more than 600MB of data he already has when the only difference between the final two installs would be a 3MB exe file.
