The LEGO Star Wars games have sold like plastic hotcakes...
How about FS ships built to look like they're made of LEGO bricks? ;) Modeling? Who needs to when there are FREE LEGO programs that have thousands of 3D brick parts files available.
What'd be needed is a program to take the assembled brick model and convert it into a model that just has the outside visible surfaces.
-
good idea.......... but if you want to do this for anything other than for yourself or something like that you'd have to get licensing
-
Well it WOULD be funny to see LEGO Maras blow up into bricks
-
that would be great...

:drevil:
The LEGO Colossus may become (virtual) reality!
-
This would be relatively easy to do if you use existing ships. I already have some of my models in the LDraw format (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=CP5670) and there are tons of others available out there, including many of the official ones. They can be easily converted to several standard 3D formats. I would try it myself, but I don't know a thing about modeling, in terms of FS. :p
I've seen a Lego Homeworld mod somewhere and it looked pretty neat.

Here LEGO GTC Fenris that I made.
However, it won't be completed.
Because I have no more blocks.

That's almost a haiku and a metaphysical commentary.....

looks more like the GTC Leviathan to me. :P
-
Meh, the Leviathan is a re-worked Fenris..... :P
-
they're the same model......
I think this will be the coolest mod ever, but theres one problem: the lego programs. I've learned from expierience that lego programs cant be trusted. they are all corrupted, whether you get them in a store, off the internet, or those little free general mills game discs..... :pimp:
even if they seem fine, they just sit in your computer and cause problems. even that brickbuilder program, released last year or so, would lock up the computer every few uses.
-
Your computer is messed up. :p I've used MLCad, Leocad and LDD for quite a while now with no problems.
MLCad does occasionally error out with complex (2000+ piece) models, but only the program itself crashes.
-
the fenris and the leviathan look the same on fs1 but on fs2 the fenris has a red circle in the middle and the leviathan has blue
-
Dark Hunter informs me that there are some differences in armor and weaponry between the Fenris and Leviathan. The Leviathan has a thicker hull and stronger beams.
EDIT: can someone post a link to the Lego programs please?

That was done by this community to make them different. Retail ships are no different.

Want LEGO software? Pokest thou this linky (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=LEGO+3D&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8). Okino has a good page here http://www.okino.com/tutorials/lego_import_and_rendering.htm with a ton of links. Convert to Lightwave .LWO and trueSpace can read that format.

MLCad (http://www.lm-software.com/mlcad) is the one most people prefer. Its renderer sucks, but it runs off the huge LDraw (http://www.ldraw.org) parts library and has a lot of features. I make the instructions for all my models through this. You can export its mpd files to LDView or a number of standard 3D programs for rendering.
-
A big problem I can see with lego ship in FS2 is the huge number of faces inside the model, unless there's some way to convert a model so only the outside visible faces are used.
Using all of the full brick models would make for one impressive debris field. :wakka: Especially when attempting to fly through it... Anyone got a GeForce 10,000 PCIe x128 videocard?
-
i dunno about my graphics card but you should just play the starfight sequence from lsw1
-
I once made a Medusa in MLCAD, and I think kasperl got his brother to actually build it in real Lego.
