Please don't laugh, i just got lightwave and this is the first i ever made, so any suggestions on how to improve it are welcome.

Ok, first of all: JPEG Compression! that thing is 283Kb, I ran it through a compression program and got it down to 38kb with no quality loss. Something to bear in mind for the future  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Now onto the render. It looks really good for a first attempt. You've managed to get the engines and the beam looking very convincing, although obviously a little work needs to be done.

Good use of background, the planet looks neat (although the bright atmosphere edge looks a little dodgy). Nice clear nebula as well.

You've even gone to the trouble of changing the alignments on the guns (something I can't seem to manage at the moment) attention to detail is good - nice one.

All in all - an excellent first render, good job  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I like it, too, except for 2 things (one of which is nit-picking):

1) The Deimos looks like there was a noise filter involved in there somewhere - When you bumpmap, you must have some anti-aliasing as well.

2) I thinnk that from the camera angle, there should be a bit of the beam's warm-up glow in view. Also, the edges of the beam are a very slight bit too hard for my tastes.(That was the nit-picking..  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))

Good job, all in all.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

my two only complaints: the inside of the engine should be bump-free, and the planet is kindda out of the place.
Otherwise you did a perfect engine glow, not too much, not too less (?).
And the Deimos really looks real  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Sorry had to deface and try something with it.  Sucks having truespace on a computer 30 miles away and the other have the paint proggie on it.  So I took the image and erased your front beam and charged up the back one instead.  The back beam would look better IMO and that camera angle.
