Title: Freespace 1 Download?

Hey
Is there any way the original Freespace 1 game can be downloaded online like Freespace 2 can? Ive had Freespace 2 for years but am now curious about where it all started.

You can get the FreeSpace Port from my Installer. It's Freespace 1, running on FreeSpace Open, updated with better graphics.

Yep. There are places that you can get FS1 as well (My FAQ, Swantz site and Freespacezone all have links to FS1 as well as FS2) so you only need have a look through the FS2 download list to find them.

However as Turey states FS1 has been ported to FS2. Some people complain that it doesn't feel quite the same running in the FS2 engine but I'll take high poly models and better effects as the tradeoff for that any day.

IMO, I think the feel was the nebula. It made it more eerie. Placing the nebula all the same color and setting ambient factor really recaptured the feel. 8)
