Title: How would this image be created?
Post by: Fineus on January 07, 2002, 11:58:00 am
This image doesn't look rendered - I was curious as to how it was created. If anyone knows what was used in making it (or how I might go about replicating this kind of art) I'd be very interested in knowing about it.

It looks almost like someone drew it, scanned it and touched it up in photoshop or other such software.

Looking at some of the detail, it looks like they might have rendered it at a low quality, then gone back and painted in the detail over the top. This is especially apparent between the secondary racks, just aft of the cockpit.

I've seen it before, it's drawn, I think by some Japenese guy...

Looks pretty good for a hand-rendering though.

Yeah, it also seems to have that mangaish flare to it I think. I dunno, just something about it screams manga. And I love manga! Is there more?!

That's cool.  I'd go to your Art School but they'd probably laugh me right out of there once they see my stuff  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

It's a drawing. See those relatively messy plating lines? An airbrush appears to have been involved as well. Also, it's not *quite* FreeSpace's Herc Mk. II model, though it is very close. I expect some artistic license was taken. Nice. Like to meet the dude who made that.
