I just noticed that on the newer versions of FRED there's a thing on the mission specs that *claims* to automatically free all of the beam weapons by default, I checked it for a mission I'm goofing around on. I tried and hey, beams weren't free. :doubt:
I must be missing something.

You must be re-locking them elsewhere cause the option works.

It's the only thing with the word "Beam" I touched.

If it's not part of some secret campaign, can you post the mission so we can see if anything else is wrong? There are other reasons why beams might not fire.

It's just a test level, I have a wing of fighters, a corvette, and that's it.

Ah. The obvious problem there would be that a Moloch corvette doesn't carry anti-fighter beams. Try one of the cruisers or destroyers instead and it should work :)

you're not the only one having that problem... i tried also the beam lock-all/ unlock-all, and it works only in some cases... for example it worked with a Telemus destroyer (<inferno) but not with an Orion.

More people with trouble? I've never had those SEXPs nor the mission specs option not work when used right, so I'd be very interested in the circumstances if you can describe it more closely. If there actually is a bug somewhere (though I doubt it, those SEXPs are retail and I just checked how the specs option gets handled and as far as I can tell it checks out), it would be nice to get it pinned down.
