Some of you might remember that disaster of a video I made about Freespace. Well, I've gone and remade it. Hopefully to you it's better. (and not ****ty. :P)

VERYU NICE.... MESA LIKE!!!!
:eek2:
-
I wasn't expecting THAT kind of reaction.
And before anyone complains, no, there is no ingame footage, I don't have the hardware to do any proper video capturing with the oh so great FRAPS.
-
Pretty Nice, better than most.
Keep up the good work!
(I'm not going to criticize, as I know zilch about making videos sooo.....)
-
do it anyway. :P
-
Very nice :) What was most impressive was the matching of the videos to the music. At some points it sort of lost touch, but then got right back on track. Very well done :)
-
considering you where only working with the cut scenes, you did a great job of keeping the imagery working with the music. I didn't really like the song personally, but it did suit it lyrically. good editing though, thats the hardest part, so kudos there!
-
Yay, people are starting to notice me! :D
Who else but me thought the missile part was a nice touch?
-
I never noticed how good the cutscenes look shrunk. If we could get the pre-rendered versions of those movies and re-render them at max quality.... Totally awesome.
couple things I don't remember:
1. That shivan ship slamming into the Orion - is that Bastion.mve?
2. The Deimos + Aeolus (?) vs. shivan fight, right before the supernove - where's that from? Bastion.mve again?

1. Bastion
2. endpart1

How about GameCam?
Who else but me thought the missile part was a nice touch?
If you mean the part where you interspersed footage from the FS2 manticore chase with footage of Lt. Ash, I did. :)
-
Errr, until GameCam works in OpenGL, no. :D
And not just that, also the part where the Manticore fired its missile. :D

Rats. I had thought it was just me.
And not just that, also the part where the Manticore fired its missile. :D
Which part was that?
-
The Manticore fires its missile and hits the Hercules in its right engine?
-
And what about it was a nice touch?
-
The way I used it with the music? :P
-
Who else but me thought the missile part was a nice touch?
i did

Personally, I quite liked the editing in syncing up the marines firing their guns with the appropriate part of the song to illustrate that. The editing in general was quite nice, actually.

Someone tell me what the rating shows for the video. Ever since Google took over Youtube things have started getting crazy with the html codes'n ****. My "my videos" view shows the rating to be 2 1/2 stars, in 3 votes, while the actual video page shows 5 stars for 3 votes. What do y'all see?
-
It says:
6 ratings
4 stars
Awesome work! I think I've watched this about 3 times...
-
I'll be uploading the high quality video to a webhost for download. It'll be up by 5:10 PM PST.
http://www.cssavarice.com/files/FSMusicVideoFinal.wmv
It's 52 MB, too, so 56kers beware.
-
I downloaded this but it was only 48.7 MB. I played it, and it says the length is 3:57, but at 3:20, it just cuts out. It seems that what you posted is missing the last 37 seconds. Seven seconds of that is the end of the Bastion's self-destruct sequence, and the other 30 seconds is the credits. BTW, I'm playing it in WinAmp.
Other than that, the hi-res version looks really, really good.
Tyrian & Tyrian gives it: :yes2:
-
really? try downloading it again.
i just downloaded it, it works fine for me.
-
Works for me now, too. Looks like I just got a bad download. Very awesome!
-
Cool, although I had to manually set the aspect ratio to 16:9... meh, a minor fault (if any).
-
why do you want a widescreen ratio? isn't the default ratio good enough? :P
-
Well, I prefer to watch videos (and TV, too) in their native aspect ratio. I don't like watching widescreen video compressed into 4:3 ratio (even though that option is better than having almost half of the image cropped away), and when I watch 4:3 broadcast on widescreen telly, I always switch it to normal aspect ratio of the show.
AS to "good enough", well, it's a matter of two mouse clicks to force the video to be shown with correct aspect ratio in VLC so it doesn't really bother me. It just felt odd, that's all.
-
Yeah, i was watching it in VLC and noticed the planet in the FS2 intro bit (with the Vasudan fighters flying towards it) was horribly stretched upward. Had to fool with VLC a bit =b
-
wow. 16:9 really DOES look better over 4:3. But I'm so used to watching this video in native 4:3 all of the humans I see look fat. :D
-
:wtf: Where are some of you getting 16:9 from? 16:9 doesn't do anything to that planet in VLC. The only thing that brings it even anything near round is 221:100. :ick: Maybe my VLC is weird?
In fact, after looking at some of the community AVIs and OGGs, I've determined that VLC doesn't support overriding this to Volition's cinematic aspect ratio, which is 2:1 ... as the dimensions of CommandBrief.avi is 640x320. This explains why 221:100 gives near-perfect results on your video, Cobra. All you have to do is rerelease your video with a doubled width and it'll be fine.
-
I used Windows Media Player to view the file and there were no distortion problems. IMO, the only reason to use VLC for .wmv files is if theyre corrupted.
As for the video itself... Simply amazing! ;)
And is your name really Daniel Dickerson?
-
And is your name really Daniel Dickerson?
Yeah, what about it? :P
-
Ah just an odd coincidence... My first name is daniel and my bfs last name is dickerson.
What program did you use to compile this? Movie maker?
-
Ja, Movie Maker. Wish I could set the aspect ratio though.
-
I used Windows Media Player to view the file ...
And of course that would be the last thing I'd run it in, because I despise Windows Media Player :p
-
Well I despise versions 9 and 11, I will only use version 10.
