question:
while the game looks so flashy and wow and cool and new inside, did anybody think about optimizing the menus ?
my flightdecks and all the other menus before a mission still look as if im playing in 800*600 :(
or am i missing a VP or some other configuration?
(if this was asked before i didnt find it with the search)
-
Do you have Sparky_Hi_fs2.vp in your main Freespace2 folder?
That file contains the high res art and without it FS2 will look really ugly in higher resolutions.
-
sure i have; also a sparky_hi_fs1.vp in the fsport folder
whereas FS2 looks oooookkkkk (not so good) the FS1 menus are fiu ;)
ill copy the FS1 sparky now to the main folder, lets see what happens
-
Don't do that. It's not a good idea to start randomly copying VPs around.
IS the problem only in the port or is it in FS2 as well?
-
well .... ok *deleting the copied vp*
ehm ... the problem is i dont know how the menus are supposed to look
if you tell me how to upload pics here, i'll post the 2 flight decks, or give me a reference link to good flight decks
there's anothing thing too, afterclosing the game, the gamma is not set back and windows looks fairly BRIGHT :eek2:

Click "Reply" on the top of the thread screen. Or, click "Preview" button on the bottom if you have quick-reply enabled. Once you have the reply screen up, click on "Additional Options..." on the bottom-left. Browse for your image, type in what you want, and hit "Post".
PS If you have more than one image, click the "more attachments" link next to the "Browse" button. This will open another Attach line.

ok, here we go
i made 2 screens from the 2 beginning flightdecks of FS port and FS 2 SCP
actually i dont worry about the FS2 but does the FS1 look right like that ?
hm ... the gamma thing is still strange ... sometimes it goes back to normal, othertimes windows shines really white
the 2nd pic here should also be more bright as i saw it ingame! i dunno how this gamma correction works and how the print button takes the screens

Are you using an nvidia card that has the dynamic gamma setting? Idk, naturally the fs2 menu screen has been as dark as that since the day i've owned the game back in the day. That doesn't really bother me of course. The fs1 menus on the port are of course low res because those are only in 640x480 in the original fs1. Porting the normal fs1 menu screen to the fs2 engine regardless is still a good step forward to having fs1 on the fs2 engine :)
Then again the last thing on my mind is how dark the ****ing menus are. Turning up the brightness in the options area of fs2 will make the menu brighter and stuff. Idk, i answered one question about the fs1 menus at least :D

sorry, no nvidia playing here, its a Radeon 9800 Pro ^^ (old drivers though, bc i didnt wanna patch to the framework drivers)
but it served me always well, despite several issues that i always figured out myself in the logic way (step by step elimination)
about this gamma thing however i cant say anything, seems to be quite random, today was also set back when the game crashed
after running the normal (not the debug) exe 2 times it got bright again ..... well ... gamma setting is 1.25 if somebody's interested
the menus are getting visible then without being annoying like the green splotchy background, thx for the menu question, i suspected that

Get new drivers for your ati. I use to own a 9800pro during the summer. I didn't have any gamma problems, then again i always updated to the latest catalysts available. After that idk, make sure nothing else is messing with the gamma. Third party useful things like tray tools that let you change settings not normally changeable in standard drivers and even overclocking usually do come with a gamma and brightness changing thing along with color overlay...for me that's liked to override the default color/brightness/contrast/gamma overlay for me with both nvidia and ati cards, usually for me making everything super dark only in game and when playing videos. It still pissed me off though to have to reset the overlay whenever i want to watch a movie, but it's a side affect for me wanting to tweak my card with an easy program.
