I'm thinking about subscribing an internet service because the free net service from my building's always busy or down. I am thinking either Comcast or Verizon. Any recommendation on other ISP (in the States)?
-
Comcast is fairly fast when it works, but the reliability is absolutely horrible. I use it because I have no other options here.

I think reliability (and presumably cheapiness) is key, if it's replacing a dodgy free service.

Isn't Verizon the same company whose employees can't distinguish a cent from a dollar? :nervous:

Yes.

Go with Comcast. It's by far the fastest, I believe it has excellent cosutomer service, and it uses your cable connection (if you have cable) and not your phone line...

It's odd I live like 20 miles ish from CP and my Comcast works just fine. It rarely goes poof.

Yea, I personally have Earthlink, but I've heard good things about Comcast from Dark Hunter.

Great, thank you very much for all your feedback :D

It's actually been good for the last few months, but there was no end to the trouble from about April to September last year. Something was going wrong with it every few days (either at their end or the local cable box), and their support people were usually clueless. I've had the service for six years now and this has been the general trend; it's great for about 6-8 months, then extremely dodgy for the next several months, then perfect again, and so on. :p
On the plus side, I found that if I argued with their CS people long enough and worked my way up to a manager, I could sometimes get a partial refund for the month's fee. :D

By free service I presume you mean stealing bandwidth off of people with an unsecured wireless router :p

Are you implying our little Wild Fragaria is less pure than the driven snow? :eek2:

Well, if by "the driven snow" you mean snow that was driven on by an leaky tanker truck filled with septic waste... :P :ick:
Apologies to WF. Please don't kill me. :nervous:

Nope, there's a free public wireless service in the area. Either that or I have to walk a couple of blocks to get free wireless service from school :)

Why not convince your neighbor(s) to get wireless routers? Help them set it up and then steal their bandwidth!
