Is it build dedicated for infenro, or official?

Use official. You will work without problems :)

IIRC, the Inferno builds simply allow more ships (than the 130) in the game. They may also have a few slight changes to be Inferno specific, but nothing in the backgrounds has changed.

In the launcher's features section check if you have jpg and tga textures enabled. It's quite possible that these are turned on in FRED but not in FS2.

I had some similar problems while working on the MT missions. If you work on a mission with two different FRED-exes the mission file can mix up, e.g. I completely destroyed one of the missions and had to restart with a backup version. On another mission, I worked only with the current 3.6.9. build, but background somehow didn't show up. I removed all suns, saved, restarted FRED, re-added the suns and it did work.

You should also try disabling all graphic features (except the JPG/TGA thingie if your background is one of those filetypes), perhaps one of those doesn't work correctly for you.

Did you modify stars.tbl at all? You have to add an entry there as well in order to get the backgrounds working.

I have a similar problem in which my backgrounds don't import at all, for example when I create a new test mission and don't mind borrowing backgrounds.

My workaround is to do a manual import via FRED. :doubt: :sigh:

I have a stars tbl much similar to the one you posted, peterc(there obviously are INF bitmaps).

My problem is related to add-background-bitmap. Some bitmaps do not appear! Furthermore, there's one nebula effect from LS package that doesn't appear too!

Stars.tbl can only handle so many entries, IIRC. If you went over the max wouldn't it just ignore those?

Just checked with FRED. 29 entries. FS nebulae+asteroids from INF.
