Title: A few unrelated questions...
Post by: TigrisJK on January 25, 2007, 01:42:21 pm
1. Where do I find out what my pilot's score is? I was just curious as to whether I'm going to advance in rank at all.

2. What campaigns should I get? I've played through the revamped Derelict and the official campaign since reinstalling, now I'm looking for some more thrills. Preferably with pretty graphics and new ships. =)

3. Is there any way to edit the files to make bombs dumbfire rather than locking? Locking bombs never made sense to me... except as a balance thing. My suicidal piloting is a much better payload delivery system than a targeting computer will ever be. I know it's possible with the built-in cheats if I hit the unlimited weapons, but I just want dumbfire bombs, is all. =) This is especially annoying when trying to destroy the Sathanas' guns. Flip around, hit the burners, switch banks, come back for another sweep, hit the secondary fire button mere meters from the main gun... and... nothing.

4. Is there a third person view I can use and abuse for pretty screenshots? =D

2. Transcend, Sync, Homesick, Shrouding the Light, Just Another Day 1 and 2.

3. Yes: edit the file weapons.tbl after having extracted it from root.vp. Go to the bomb entry (it begins with "$Name: <name of the bomb>"). There should be a line called "$Homing:". Replace "YES" with "NO" and remove all the lines beginning with a "+" until you arrive to the line "$LaunchSnd:". Then put the modified tbl/tbm in the "<your mod>\data\tables" folder.

4. Press period on the numpad, and change the angle with the joytick. Zoom in with "-" and zoom out with "+" (I don't know why they are inverted...)

Huh. I don't see a score in the barracks, that's the first place I looked. I see my stats for primary and secondary weapons, and my total kills, and my kills by ship type, but not the score that the ranks.tbl uses. I could just be totally missing it though... where is it on the sheet?

2. Transcend, Sync, Homesick, Shrouding the Light, Just Another Day 1 and 2.

Thanks! I shall try all of those suggestions out. I'm particularly excited about having dumbfire bombs. =)

You can also reduce reload time to zero ;7
It's the "$Fire Wait:" line.

Eh? My medal cabinet tells me I'm a lieutenant... No numerical value for the score to let me know when I'll hit the next rank, though, and neither is it in my player stats... not that I can see.

AFAIK, there's now way to find out your score from within the game, you must use some program, which doesn't work with SCP. ::)

And if you're lookin' for new ships go dl inferno. 'tis very, very big, be warned. But it's very fun. :)

can't you see your total score by completing a mission, then going to the statistics section of the debriefing, then hitting the right arrow button twice?

No.

Unless that's a new SCP feature.

Distance from ship decrease (-), distance from ship increase (+)

If its just for bombs that you want this, you can extract the weapons.tbl file and go to the $Flags: section on each bomb you want to edit.  Find a flag called "no dumbfire" and remove it, quotation marks and all.  This will still attempt to lock on, but it won't refuse to fire if you don't have a lock.

I just thought of (logically) why they have locking bombs, but I agree, it should be optional.

If you notice, all the AI bombers bomb from a looong distance away.  Also, the bombs are moving really slowly, so if you wanna hit a specific subsystem on a moving target, without a lock it'll be very hard to do.  As for the swoop tactics, they're fun, and if you can pull it off right, more power to you.  But a small problem I noticed was, um, what's that huge blue circle moving toward me at an alarming rate?

1. In your pilot selection screen, you can see it.

2. I STRONGLY recommend Inferno, Sync and Transcend. (i'll only recommend those 3 , since they're the only ones ive played and finished).

3. * is your default button to switch to 3rd person view  (located above the numpad). Careful not to press / , it will switch you to the view of your target (which can be an extreme pain , and lead to your death). I reset it to ` .

Unfortunately, no, except in multiplayer IIRC. This is definitely something that should be added in with FSO.
