Title: Ship naming
Post by: starbug on January 25, 2007, 03:19:28 pm: How do you guys come up ship names for the other races in TBP ie, Narn, Minbari, Centauri etc? Just i am having real trouble coming up with names for my ships in my campaign i am very slowely doing, i have got 2 for 2 narn ships, G'Kharn and Na'Tarn but i am having trouble for the Centauri and Minbari, is there a B5 site or something that could help come up with ship names?

I can't think of many Centauri ship names off the top of my head, but I do recall that one of their Primus class battlecruisers was the Valarius, from S2, "The Long Twilight Struggle". I believe that there was another Primus named in S5 "Strange Relations", but researching hasn't revealed the name of the ship. I currently have Season 5 on loan to someone, so I can't check myself.

Post by: IPAndrews on January 26, 2007, 09:55:39 am: I look for patterns in the appearance of letters or sequences of letters in a particular language. I wrote a program to do this once. You could feed a document of any language into it and it would come up with new words it thought looked like they should exist in the same language. It was pretty cool. Pointless but cool.

Post by: Tain on January 31, 2007, 02:50:04 am: For the Centauri think Roman in vague terms. The Centauri are fond of iv, is, us, uv and a gaggle of other latinesque prefixes and suffixes. Just look at some existing Centauri names and words for inspiration.

Valerius
Balvarin
Octurion
Ladira
Turhan
Centaurum

As for the Narn, they are a bit easier. Just about anything with an apostrophe tossed in at the right place would look suitably Narn. :lol:

Yes this is a good link. Generally it comes up with better ship Captain names than ship names but now and again it'll come up with something extremely cool. A good find.
