True, whatever is within your price range, routers can be pretty expensive, but they offer protection that a hub doesnt...

Cisco, you say...Cisco leads to MONEY, MONEY leads to GREED, GREED leads to hate etc. etc. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I have a Netgear RT314 connecting 3 PCs. Works great.
And the NICs should support 10/100 Mbps full duplex

Any other opinions?

sure about this, but I think you can get a USB cable to network 2 computers together - not sure on 3 though - so you could see if anything along those lines is useful.

As far as i know you can connect a max of 127 computers to a USB hub. I friend of my uses a USB hub and 4 computers and it's slow.
UTP is faster in my opinion.

Here's a good spot to start (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
DSL FAQ ("http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/")
Look under the Hardware Firewall section. If you can afford it, get one that has stateful inspection for best security (but not necessarily ease of use).
Here is another good place to visit, lots of info and they do testing and reviews of equipment.

pulling on my expertice from working on the trade, any decent network card 10/100, Dlink, netvin/netgear will do the job
then for the router an
SMC Barricade, it is what we sell at work it has an input for the DSL then u have a inbuilt firewall that supports almost all games and then it spilits into 4 ports for u toconnect to the other comps, simplest bit of kit u can get!
