And do you use it for other sim titles? My Wingman Extreme seems to have kicked the bucket and I'm looking at getting a new joystick to play FS2, Freelancer mods, IW2 mods and any new (quality) space sims with.
Any recommendations? Obviously it has to be compatible with the SCP :)
Thanks
BTW, on a totally unrelated note and because I don't want to post a new thread, is there any way to skip the annoying "tutorial" missions at the begin of the official FS2 campaign?

Mouse and Keyboard for me.

I have a Logitech Extreme 3D stick (god I feel like a noob writing that :p) that works very well for me. The only thing I've seen wrong with it is that it has begun to loosen a bit, meaning that the ship pitches forward without me actually touching the stick. End result is that I play with it tilted just a tiny bit back to keep the ship level.
Interestingly, it only does this with Freespace. Descent and Virtual Impact don't have this problem.

Saitek X-52.

ditto
shouldn this be in the general freespace forum?

Used to use a Saitek 3D cyborg commando stick, special edition from the late '90s, basically has everything you'd find on a modern 3D stick, except it cost me about $90 when I first got it. Then I left my window open when my dad watered the grass in the backyard, now every time I fly down and to the right, the computer senses it as being jerked left for some reason. Makes chasing shivans and getting missile locks a real pain. So I don't use it anymore.

I use a Saitek Cyborg Evo (the cheap version) and have had no problems at all with it (except that it is too big for my hand).
-
Logitech wingman rumblepad, it is not a joystick but it has allot of buttons (11) so I like it more than a joystick on tactical games like this.
-
I do have one, an extremely old USB one of whose type I am not certain, around here somewhere...however I got it for Falcon Gold and have rarely used it for any program that does not require the use of a joystick.
-
Currently using the classic Force Feedback stick, the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro, but I've also used the Thrustmaster Top Gun Afterburner 2. (More buttons, even though no force feedback.)
I'd like to try the Saitek X-52, because I could map every control feature I use in combat with all those buttons available and never use my keyboard during a sortie again, but it's so damn expensive. Anyone care to give a review of the X-52 so I know for sure whether or not it's worth the dough?

try adjusting your deadspot? I use some software from http://www.wingmanteam.com/ to finely adjust sensitivity and deadzone. very useful for when your joystick inevitably loosens.

$10 USB converter + PS2 controller. LOL!
Just you wait till that 360 wireless controller dongle comes out.

RazorsKiss and I both have X52's - he loves his, I don't per say like mine.
I'm using a Trackman Marble+ mouse...
You can get the x52 regular via eBay for about $70 there's also a newer x52 Pro version.
(My personal thoughts)
Pro's -
Key editor is fairly well done.
Works with FS2 natively.
Throttle is good.
General construction appears to be good.
Con's -
Grip, although adjustable - is not comfortable for all hands (long fingered) due to the pinkie trigger and trigger guard.
We've found that some buttons cannot be assigned - depending on the program, such as Tachyon.
The rotating hat dials are fairly hard to move - you have to use two fingers at least sometimes.

I use an Saitek Cyborg Rumble Stick. It does have 9 buttons, a 8-way-coolie-hat, rudder and throttle axes.
It "works", but like every Joystick I had (Logitech Wingman - only with throttle, and an old Saitek Cyborg Stick - with Throttle, 5 buttons and a 4-way-coolie-hat), it doesn't calibrate right anymore.
On my old Wingman, I could still compense it in adjusting it with the two wheels it had for that purpose...
But the both Saiteks just won't work as precise and calibrated as it tended to...
My Rumble Stick for example does roll to the right and steer up when I don't touch and correct it...
So precise maneuvering isn't always possible... :(

Saitek X-45
-
I use either my XBox360 controller or my CH 568 CombatStick USB.
-
I used to use a MS sidewinder precision pro which has worked great for the past 9 years or so but has started to wear out. Just yesterday I bought myself an X-52 though. I just played with it for a few minutes but alread it seems to be pretty sweet. 8)

About the skipping the training missions, you miss a medal for skipping them. Just in case you care about that sort of thing.
-
On a secondary note - the one stick I liked the most and still holds up to
this day is an old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro.
Might not have enough buttons for today's games, but it's a solid stick.
Only problem is that MS quit supporting the stick some time ago.
Best way to get the USB version would be eBay, the older serial version
can be made into a USB device with a bit of programming and a controller
board.

Hmm, me wonders...
Can you use more than one joystick at a time?
