Title: Problems with a squadron logo
Post by: Dysko on February 02, 2007, 02:05:34 pm
I made a squadron logo converting an image that Mobius sent me. When I finished converting it, it worked fine for me (except for a black square when I put the green that should be considered transparent...).
Then I sent it to Mobius.
Mobius can't use it. He said me that when he selects it, he sees only a black square typical of logos that aren't 128x128 PCX with 256 colours.
As I said, I can use the logo without any particular problem (except for the black square).
I attach the logo here so you can see where is the problem.

Um that's a 24 bit PCX file. Try changing it into an 8-bit PCX file.

Thank you!

Just a question: how do I convert a 24-bit PCX in an 8-bit PCX? Photoshop doesn't ask me that when I save...

It could be expectable, but I asked DySkO to create this thread because I was sure that karajorma would have posted here!

I knew that the problem was connected to either bits or image resolution. I was worried because DySkO had no problems.

Thank you!

Attached is an 8-bit version of the same file.

I can't remember exactly how to do it in Photoshop, but what you need to do is convert it to an indexed palette.  You should be able to do that before you save, and then it will be correct.

Conditions of the restraining order say that they can't. :D

Seriously though I appreciate it when stuff like this is posted openly rather than just PM'd to me. Sometimes other people can solve the problem faster than I can get back to it with a solution. And in this case my skill with image depth reduction consists of choosing that option in the Irfanview menu which would have resulted in a very ugly image compared with Taylor's.

Oh c'mon....

Uhm the logo works, but I can see the green parts of it. They're not transparent.

Anyway, I should get another image for that logo: it's low detailed in 128x128 format.

Oops, I forgot to check the palette. :)  The green isn't pure, it has a little bit of red in it.  It's easily fixed though, so if you need a fixed version let me know and I'll post it.

I noticed that this afternoon and already fixed the logo. Anyway, thank you for the 8-bit version :)

In Photoshop, it's Image > Mode > Indexed Color
Choose the number of colors you want, in this case it's 256.
