Yes, AVI files. Don't shoot me. *cringes*
Anyway, I'd like to create some FS2 music videos using the FS2 cutscenes and iMovie, but the program will only import AVI format. Is there any way I can get a hold of the AVI FS2 cutscenes? The links via the FreeSpace Oracle don't work when I try to download them. :o Or alternately, is there a way to convert the MVE's to AVI?
(If you couldn't tell by now, I've been out of the FS loop. :P) Thanks!

A little further down the cutscene page (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/movies.html) that you seem to have found already is a section on converting the MVEs to AVIs. To summarize, you'll need to use a converter provided on that page to produce raw AVI files, then either compress them with a program like VirtualDub or use them directly.
(Also, note that the info on that page about the lack of MVE support in FS2_Open is outdated.)

I did say that the game supports MVE
Due to licensing restrictions the code for playing the MVE format was removed from the FS2 source code before it was released to the general public. Code was eventually added back in to play MVE movies but if you're using FS2_Open 3.6.7 or earlier you won't be able to play them. Of course you can always upgrade to a more recent build but if you're reading this before an official build is released or if new builds won't work for you there are ways around the problem.
But yeah the page does need some fixing.

Gah, that's what happens when I skim the first sentence. :p

Well considering that all I did to update the FAQ was to add that sentence... :D

Yeah, I realized I need a converter...but are there any that can convert MVE to AVI for Mac? I've looked in the past, but didn't come across anything. Also, the programs mentioned on karajorma's page are for Windows. :ick:

Ah. That is a problem then.
Maybe though you can try converting the .ogg movies into .avi on a mac?
-
.ogg movies? Are those on the original disks of the game?

No. It's something new. Check out Turrey's FS2 Open installer.
