Any Americans in here should probably be fairly familiar with it.
For easier reference, I live here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishers%2C_Indiana
And even easier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianapolis_Colts
And for those of you who still don't get what I'm on about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianapolis_Colts#2007_Super_Bowl

The Superbowl, you could say, has the importance to most Americans as the World Cup has to Europeans.
Basically, the American football championship game. The big one.

Yeah, you'd almost think they were from a red state or something.
Oh wait...
WOO HOO COLTS!

They almost were though, which made the Colts' AFC win even better than winning the Superbowl.

Oh, like the champions league final.
(world cup would be europe and also africa, south america and even quite a few chunks of asia, IIRC :) )

The superbowl was really the AFC Championship game this year, and everyone knows it. NFC sucks.

That was one hell of a game too, I'm not going to lie. Patriots vs. Colts is always a good matchup, but playing for a run to the Superbowl made it even better.

Yeah, there's just a tad difference between the 2 best QB's in the game today vs "Bad" Rex Grossman.
-
The only possible effect it had on me was to A: cancel things I might have watched and B: make me even more deeply embittered towards the team that happens to inhabit this city for the depths of their crappiness.
**** THE CHARGERS.

Lol, Bears won. My philosophy professor will be happy.
-
I love American football. It's almost as good as rugby league.

Ow. Man, that's just.... harsh,
True, though :)

Horribly too.

American sports > Euro sports, but that's my own humble opinion. :p

....er, go Packers!
Did you guys see that play? They totally scrimaged the ball and when the quarterback missed the punt past the ten yeard line - that's like 4 points right there. Yeah! Damn Broncos can't pass for ****!

Hey, in our defense, Americans get to hit each other while playing football. Europeans (with the exception of rugby, which I assume must not be extremely popular), don't. :p
-
Football is an excellent game that gives men an excuse to beat the crap out of each other () and women the chance to see men in tight pants.... really tight pants. (seriously, the females at the table during lunch went on and on and on.....)

You've obviously never seen an Old Firm derby :D
Rugby is pretty popular in certain european countries; the UK nations, and particularly France (Italy less so, and the rest are very quiet). It's worth bearing in mind, of course, that rugby only really is suited to muddy countries ;) (oh, the painful memories of playing on the Swamp at school....)

It is an honest mistake, I'll give you that... but really, missing the winner of the Superbowl is in some cases the equivalent of missing who won a Presidential election in terms of media coverage. There was actually a sitcom that did an episode about not figuring out who won the Superbowl for a day, and they found it nearly impossible.

My favourite sport to watch is Ice Hockey. So actually I'd agree.

And here I thought you were talking about Boston...

I think you were looking too deep into that, philosopher.
