Title: My big mod release!
Post by: Scooby_Doo on February 07, 2007, 08:08:23 pm
Christmas edition: just a couple small fixes, and a new texture for the Tiger claw and company.
http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-12-25-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-12-25-07.rar)

Just a couple of table fixes in this one.  CaptainX alerted me to them, dunno why I didn't get an error message.  Naming scheme for antimatter/plasma weapon grades are easier (light, medium, heavy)  Also I've deleted the music, voices and the neph stuff for the time being.
If your using one of the following models: ajax, formidable, hhaifra, hunter, nimitz, Rak'sadarg, athena or washington you'll also want to get at least their 12-02-07 updates.

The additional-12-02-07 file is here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-12-02-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-12-02-07.rar)

Also when and if I get my new video card I will go through everything, give them normal maps, hopefully get rid of any warnings, tweak the antifighters turrets (their great in saga, but when ships carry twice the number it's murderous)

Also this thread should become obsolete, as it's gotten large and unweildy.  Hopefully I'll find an easier way to keep you updated.
====================================================================================================

Once again additional vp has been updated. Mostly minor tweaks/fixes this time.

Weapon effects should work now, the particle, tachyon and cloudburst.
Missiles have been updated and a bit more friendly i.e. they don't kill you in one shot, but are still dangeorus, depending on the ship your flying.
Couple textures have been updated and one new cockpit texture included.
Mass drivers are now much easier to see.
Turret lasers and tachyons fire at saga speeds and not twice as fast (my mistake).
Everything else from the previous update still should apply (unless i forgot i made a change)

As before, delete the existing additional vp file and extract this one.
Grab the updated version here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-09-26-07.rar

If your using the hhaifra or ???, the extra temp files are no longer needed (their merged with this additional pack).
================================================================================================

http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-03-31-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-03-31-07.rar)

Changes that I can remember:
================================================================================================

Well it's time.  Now that Swantz has been kind enough to offer online storage space I shall start uploading...

Heres the general layout for this thread, I shall post a pic and a link for each ship.  If someone finds a fault/bug with it, I shall attempt to fix it.  The original part for the message shall be deleted and a new topic shall be added.  I.e. if you see a new message from me containing a ship your using, then it'll probably be a good idea to redownload with the new link.  Also note I give all my files date extensions on the filename.
With all that said and done heres the prereqs:

As is, you will need to install Saga, as I inherit a lot of their features from them, like guns and effects.  Now if you have no intention to use them as is, (want to use them in your own mod) then read carefully whats written in maroon.  Some stuff is optional others is required.
Updates for Saga are written in blue

First off the additional file.  This contains sound effects, some textures, tables, etc that are commonly used.  Everyone needs to download this file.
http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-02-07-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Additional-02-07-07.rar)

Edit: Also you will want a newer version of scp than what comes with Saga, otherwise you'll get warnings.

IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE INTERNALS SKIP TO THE NEXT MESSAGE

Updates to Saga's Stuff:

Quite a few new weapons are available.  Some of these are still mostly in limbo and others are optional secondary loadouts (possible to replace laser with volt...etc)  None available for Saga's ships including:

For those interested in only the models, extract the contents from the vp

I shall start posting other stuff in a bit latter... after writing all that my eyes are crosseyed LOL

Edit: dyslexia at work again
Starting with light fighters.

First one.... The P-8 Epee (formally known as the Encantona).

The P-8 Epee follows in it's ancestors name.  The original Epee was designed as a jousting fighter.  In fact even further back, the real Epee is a jousting sword.  It's not designed as a head to head fighter rather more like any annoying pest with a very nasty bite.  The P-8 isn't the fastest or most agile of the light fighters but it's armed with either two particle or two neutron guns, it can be rather nasty.

Available here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished_Epee-02-07-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished_Epee-02-07-07.rar)
The Epee was scratchbuilt from the Privateer 2's Ecantona

(Any model beginning with 'Finished-' has bumpmaps and normal maps included for future use)

Next up...

The  F-36 Cobra. Small and very fast are the best ways to desribe her.  One of the fastest fighters around, she can outrun most all other figthers.  Since she only carries a pair of laser cannons, she's best suited for rapid patrols and hit and run missions.

She can be found here:http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Cobra-02-07-07.rar
Update: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Cobra-06-03-07.rar
Fixed slight lod misplacement.

It was designed from the personally scratch built from the Privateer 2 Trembler.

===================================================================================================

The  F-21 Hornet is very unlike the other light fighters. It is neither super fast or super agile, but what it does posses is a thick armor, almost that of a medium class fighter, and a power weapon mount.  Its capably of equiping a two mass drivers or two ionic pulse cannons or two electron cannons.  It also carries a slighty larger missile payload than other light fighters, two banks each with four mounts.  It is also reasonably good at light assault attacks.  If you need heavier firepower then I would suggest the Demon, it's bigger brother)

The Hornet can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Hornet-01-06-07.vp.rar
Update here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Hornet-02-24-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Hornet-02-24-07.rar)
It was a Privateer 1 Phantom mesh that got some reconfiguring.

Is two ships per post enough so that it isn't one big super long post?

Anyways.....

Next up the Piranha

The P-15D Piranha is the current all-purpose light point defence fighter.  If you love flying the Arrow you should enjoy the Piranha as much.  Similar speed and maneuverability plus it can carry not only a laser cannon but two additional ionic pulse cannons as well.

The Piranha can be found here:http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Piranha-02-08-07.rar
Update here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Pirhana-06-04-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Pirhana-06-04-07.rar)
Fixed lod greatly misplaced.

The model was originally from wcmdf.solsector.net and HTLed and retextured.

===================================================================================================

Talon

The F-30 Talon is another solid point defense fighter like the Piranha and the Arrow.  While not as small as the others, it still is quite fast and armed with twin meson canons, which will put the hurt into any fighter.

The Talon can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Talon-02-08-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Talon-02-08-07.rar)
The Talon was scratchbuilt from Privateers Talon with additional wings.

The last light fighter (for now)

The KF-25 Ra'toth.  The Ra'toth is a Kilrathi light fighter armed with dual lasers.  Not only is it fast and maneuverable but anything trying to chase it will have a very difficult time actually hit it with its very thin side profile.

Ra'toth is located here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Ratoth-01-06-07.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Ratoth-01-06-07.vp.rar)
The ra'toth is a gevatter Lars' paper scratch design.

==================================================================================================
Medium fighters

like the Hellcat and possibly the Ulysses
==================================================================================================

F-26 Demon.
The F-26 Demon is solid fighter.  While it's neither fast nor agile, it can take punishment and keep on ticking.  Good missile payload and two gun mounts (one slot capable of carrying either a mass driver, neutron, ionic or even a photon cannon and the other either particle or dust cannons) make this one dangerous fighter especially against slower ships.  Do not confuse this version with the very old Demon found in Saga.

The demon can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Demon-01-02-07.vp.rar
Updated: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Demon-02-24-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Demon-02-24-07.rar)

The demon was a scratchbuilt version.

Well I've got about another 30 models or so to upload.  :D

Drats the Faladri VP file seems to have gone astray  :doubt:  Guess I'll have to rebuild the pof again  :hopping:

The F-117 Rapier is next on the list.

The F-117 is one of the next generation advanced medium class fighter.  She has less armor than most medium fighters, however her speed, maneuverability and shield strength exceed anything else in her class.  At to an excellent chassis is a weapons loadout that is extremely dangerous with a default loadout of two particle cannons and two volt cannons.  The Rapiers are currently being distributed to carriers replacing the obsolete Tigersharks and any remaining Hellcats.

You can throw out your old hellcats for this new model: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Rapier-12-23-06.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Rapier-12-23-06.vp.rar)
The Rapier's mesh I believe was originally the WC Homeworld mod and was one of my first models I did. (If you haven't figured it out by now, the Rapier's were one of my favorite fighters  :) )

===================================================================================================

The KF-6 Bloodfang.
The Bloodfang is a revolutionary new style for the Kilrathi.  The Kilrathi can no longer afford to throw large numbers of fighters against an enemy that can outnumber them*.  Because of this, they needed to make their fighters much sturdier.  Hiring designers from several big human fighter companies, the Bloodfang was one of the fighters that was developed.  While it's not as fast or as agile as the Rapier, it has better armor.

Bloodfang can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Bloodfang-01-06-07.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Bloodfang-01-06-07.vp.rar)
*Most if not all my fighters are post Prophecy era, around 2700. Saga occurred around 2667?

The two brothers

The KF-26 Drakthi is a family derived from the Dralthi line.  While it is similar in many aspects to the Dralthi, it is faster and more agile while the Dralthi has better shielding and armor.  Certain clans refuse to use the Drakthi while others have adopted it over the Dralthi.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/drakthi-3.jpg[/img]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/drakthi-3.jpg) (http://[IMG)

The Drakthi can be found here http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Drakthi-10-20-06.vp.rar
Updated Here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Drakthi-02-24-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Drakthi-02-24-07.rar)
The Drakthi was scratch built from Privateer 3 concept pictures
==================================================================================================

Continuing the neverending line... the KF-14 Dralthi Mk5 is the current revision of the classic Dralthi.... aka the flying pancakes.  Nevertheless it is a solid performer with a good weapons package included.

The Dralthi can be found here http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Dralthi5-12-11-06.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Dralthi5-12-11-06.vp.rar)
The Dralthi was built from Saga's Dralthi, which I had upgraded.

The KF-12 Goran is the standard midclass fighter.  It is neither fast or agile but comes with a good weapons loadout and cheap to build.  The Goran has been mass-produced for the Kilrathi military and private use.  Many Gorans have also found their way into pirate hands too.

The Goran can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Goran-01-05-07.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Goran-01-05-07.vp.rar)
This model was scratch built based on Privateer's Goran.  Unforunately both the MAX file and the PSD files no longer exist.

(outside the Faldari who's VP has go missing, this I believe concludes the medium class, next up interceptors)

Interceptors

The F-20 Bearcar Mk 2 is the heaviest of the interceptor class currently available.  The ion drive system that was first introduced in the original line of Bearcats were problematic at best.  High cost and frequent breakdowns overshadowed it's high power output.  After the development of standard fighter class antimatter engines, the entire bearcat's engine were disassembled and retrofitted with these newer engines.  High speed on a much smaller engine than the original series.  Since the ion drive system is no longer there to cause problems with the tachyon weapons systems, the gun mounts where moved inward and a secondary pair of guns were added.  This change allows for better aiming and a greater chance of actually hitting the target, which was one of the major complaints about the original series.

The Bearcat can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Bearcat-02-16-07.rar
Update found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Bearcat-06-03-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Bearcat-06-03-07.rar)
Updates include: Fixed miscentered LOD levels, they "jump" when switching lod levels.

There is still some wrapping going on, but not as nasty as in the pic... BTW I've replaced the orignal pic with a newer one.  You can still see some distortion but then it could be just the shape of the texture  :P

The F-25 Wild Weasel is the standard interceptor fighter.  Quite fast and well armed, these fighters can be a very serious headache for enemy bombers.  Like the Bearcat the Wild Weasel can carry Artemis long range antibomber missiles.

The Wild Weasel can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-WildWeasel-02-17-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-WildWeasel-02-17-07.rar)
The Wild Weasel was a scratchbuilt from primitive pictures of Privateers 2's Icarus.  Once newer pictures were released at CiC, it didn't look like the Icarus anymore so it got renamed to Ferret and finally renamed to Wild Weasel (for a specific reason).

====================================================================================================

The KF-10 Jrathek is the current Kilrathi interceptor.  While the Kilrathi didn't have a dedicated interceptor during the Terrian/Kilrathi war,  the presence of large numbers of Nephilim make it a necessity.

The Jrathek can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Jathrek-01-05-07.vp.rar
The Jrathek started with the Jarthek mesh model, and was refitted with a bubble cockpit.

Superiority fighters....
These are designed to be high performance fighter than can take nearly any other fighter on one to one and win.  Superior speed, agility, firepower and shielding on a somewhat larger chassis than the medium fighters.  Do take note however, it's hull strength (armor) isn't as impressive though, only slightly somewhat better than most medium fighters.

Currently I have only two fighters in this class, both with thrust vectoring.  I just can't seem to conceptialize a kilrathi fighter with thrust vectoring engines.

The F-6G Vampire is current revision of the famous Vampire.  The upgrades from the F-6F includes better engines and shielding. The F-6A was released shortly after the first Nephilim invasion during WC5, F-6B were first used by Black Ops on the Ceberas shortly afterwards.

the Vampire can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Vampire-11-02-06.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Vampire-11-02-06.vp.rar)
This was based on an existing model, however nearly 90% of the original model was removed and replaced. Texturing is 100% redone and reasonably accurate.  The only thing non-canon is the size, it's now scaled to about 30meters, otherwise it's way too tiny.

some of those ships need to have the smothing values tuned down, it screws with the lighting, especaly on hard-edge designs.

Unforunately truespace doesn't save smoothing values from Max, and using facetted looks way too blocky and auto-facetted is a hit or miss, works on some areas and others bleh  :sigh: Also my shinemapping isn't all that great anyways. I can do glowmaps with no problem nicely but shinemaps ugh. Also I'm not exactly looking for a hard edge like Saga, more of a rounded feel. (also helps with polycount  :)  )

Does anyone know if/how Truespace 7 can use smoothing like Max does, where you can define polygons to have specific smoothing sets?

Ugh I honestly don't know how this can be done correctly.  I could divide the vertices where the problems occur, but that leads to other problems.

You can change the angle that auto-facet triggers at by first changing the type to auto-facet in the material editor, then rightclicking the auto-facet icon. This is settable per material.

Another trick you can do with a model-wrapping UV map is instead of using the same setting for the entire skin, you can change the facet type then use paint face to make specific faces selectively faceted, auto-facet or smooth shaded.

How that will translate to POF, I dunno. The different facet type makes trueSpace designate it as a different material. Could that lead to the texture being loaded more than once in Freespace?

Yes I've used auto-facet values before.  It works ok sometimes and others it mismatches.
Now the model-wrapping uv thingie I haven't seen before.

No, it works fine. In fact I just described the exact same technique to him in the other thread: ;)

Quote
You take your texture, pick faceted/smooth/autofaceted (each different angle on autofacet will form a different smoothgroup), and apply it to the parts you want faceted/smooth/autofaceted. During conversion, PCS will correctly interpret the smoothings, but merge the materials back into one so you don't end up with copies of the same texture all applied to your mesh.

Expanding on Bizzybodys description and rewording my own a bit, when you use the paint brush to apply a material with a particular smooth-type to a particular group of faces, you can use the autofacet angles to differentiate between groups. For example, if you paint one group of faces with the autofacet angle set to 60, and another with it set to 61, PCS will interpret those two groups of faces as separate smoothgroups, but it will keep them as the same texture - it won't separate them into two separate textures that FS would then have to render one after the other.

Again though, it's always best to let the mesh speak for itself. Facet all the way! If you find you have polygon edge creases in awkward places, fix them instead of using smoothing to hide them. It will always result in far better lighting and give you a much neater model.

Why are you using TS?

Because with the max plugin, I usually get mixed results, some work, some dont, some are missplaced (especially those with turrets)

Normally you'd paint the whole model with your single texture, or the individial parts with their own textures, each texture with the same settings for all faces it covers.

But you can set different aspects like the auto facet angle, shine and all them other things for any number of faces by changing them then using the paint face tool. I just tried it on a one piece model with a single texture and was able to have some faces faceted and others auto-faceted.

What I don't know is how the resulting different materials will affect converting to POF. Does POF keep such attributes seperate from the materials/textures?

...I just told you it works before:

No, it works fine.
....
PCS will interpret those two groups of faces as separate smoothgroups, but it will keep them as the same texture - it won't separate them into two separate textures that FS would then have to render one after the other.

See? :p

Ok this looks very promising  :)
Now I just wish the opengl or directx solid views were actually useable and not totally sluggish.

Btw is it possible to pickup a texture from a polygon, instead of the whole object? That would help with the tweaking
Title: Re: My big mod release!
Post by: Vasudan Admiral on February 22, 2007, 05:57:03 am
The eyedrop thingie works on polygons, though it is somewhat tempramental and likes to pick the texture of the object behind the one you're trying to grab half the time, while not picking any texture at all the other half. ;)

Post by: Scooby_Doo on February 22, 2007, 06:01:22 am
Yup just found out the eyedropper works too  :)

I don't suppose theres a way to select multiple polys quickly?

Depends on your definition of 'quick'. ;)

Hmmm does modelview not understand smoothing correctly? The results I got look very opposite of what i wanted.
Ugh well that wasn't as hopeful as I wanted.  Instead of doing smoothing as truespaced rendered it, it facetted it instead.

Also the max plugin won't even create a pof file and all I wanted it to convert was a group name detail-0  :blah:
Title: Re: My big mod release!
Post by: Vasudan Admiral on February 22, 2007, 06:40:15 am
Make sure you're setting the smoothing up based on which build of PCS you're using. I did some experiments on this a while back, with the results in the PCS entry on the wiki: http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/POF_Constructor_Suite

Most notably, the settings you give in TS are somewhat mixed up.

With a standard build, something faceted or smoothed in TS will ONLY result in a faceted effect on the pof, whereas setting stuff to autofacet will result in it being smoothed. (You can't achieve an autofacet in a standard PCS build, just as you can't achieve smoothing in an autofacet build)

tS has lasso and rectangle select buttons. I've never used them, dunno if that's just for selecting a bunch of whole objects or if they'll work in conjunction with the Pont Edit panel. If you can't find them, use the icon finder button that opens a panel with almost every button on it. (Doesn't have the paint buttons from the material editor.)

I just ctrl+click to select multiple objects, faces, edges, vertexes.
Title: Re: My big mod release!
Post by: Scooby_Doo on February 23, 2007, 03:08:10 am
Yup version 7 has the ability to lasso/rectangle select polys and paint them en mass.  This was EXACTLY what I was looking for.  Imagine trying to paint several hundred triangles individually  :shaking: TS 3.2 doesn't seem to have this (or I didn't see it).

Bobboau do you remember which ones were the worst? I'll fix those first.

Also is there trueview in TS 7 or 6? I can't seem to find it, only thing I found is the hierarchy chart layout thingie.

Back on course...

The F-12 Falcon is the current high end fighter.  Fast, very agile, well shielded, better amour than the Vampire, the Falcon is a joy to fly.  It is armed by default with twin cloudbursts and twin quantum disrupter's, it can be reconfigured for quad cloudbursts for max damage.

The Falcon can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Falcon-02-27-07.rar

Fixed: Large Lod misalignment now fixed.

The Falcon was built from the Vampire, hellcat, and probably the Panther.

To make it really useable in FS2 (as to make it not so uber compared to fs2 fighters).  Change the primary and secondary weapons, speed/afterburner, agility, shielding and hull (probably more entries?) in the tbm file that accompanies each download.  For Saga, they should be reasonably balanced already, mind you they are stronger than sagas counterpart.  Course, this is like comparing a Korean-Vietnam era phantom to the new f-22  :D

For scale size wise, they should fit in with FS2, as their scaled correctly, for Saga they'll look very big compared, this is due to Origin's original scaling differences.

Heavy fighters, you know like the Hercules and thunderbolt

The F-14 Excalibur is an updated version of the venerable Excalibur first flow in WC3.  This version is shorter, a bit wider and engine design has been reconfigured.  It also carries one additional meson cannon.  While not as fast or as agile as superiority fighters, her shields and armor make up for it.

The Excalibur can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Excalibur-12-11-06.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Excalibur-12-11-06.vp.rar)
This was one of my first models,  it was built off an existing model a long time ago (probably Homeworlds WC mod)

=============================================================================================

The A-2 Raptor resembles the original Raptor in many aspects, it's shape and it's classification as a heavy fighter.  Generically it's called a heavy fighter, while more specifically it can either be a siege fighter or a defense fighter. It can carry a single torpedo and multiple dumbfire or swarmers.  While not as agile as the Excalibur, the Raptor has stronger armor.

The Raptor can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Raptor-12-18-06.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Raptor-12-18-06.vp.rar)
Like the Raptor this was another of my really old models, updated.  Also based on the Homeworld's mod.

The KF-18 Kriska is the Kilrathi's version of the Excalibur.  Reasonably fast, heavy weapon payload and good shields makes this an excellent fighter to pilot.

The Kriska can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Kriska-01-06-07.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Kriska-01-06-07.vp.rar)
The Kriska was scratchbuilt from the original Kriska pictures.

==================================================================================================

The KF-22 Gothhek is the current heavy fighter of the main Kilrathi fleet.  It's neither fast nor agile but it delivers one serious punch and with torpedo capabilities can take on capital ships.  The Gothhek is also equipped with a rear laser turret for additional protection.

The Gothhek can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Gothhek-01-06-07.vp.rar
Updated: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Gothek-06-19-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Gothek-06-19-07.rar)
Updated, speed reduced from 110 down to 70 where it should have been to begin with.

The gothhek was built from bits and pieces of different models, including Saga's Gothri's main hull, plus quite a bit of scratchbuilt.

The F-16 Vindicator is the second generation Vindicator.  No longer a jack of all trades, master of none, it's a heavy fighter with considerable punch.  Not as strong as the Excalibur, but cheaper to produce.

The Vindicator can be found here:  http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Vindicator-01-06-07.vp.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Vindicator-01-06-07.vp.rar)
The Vindicator was built from HW WC mod's Vindicator and Excalibur.

I used to use tabs but switched over to spaces, although there are probably tabs that still exist.  For the most part the tables should be column formatted and well spaced (usually).

Which one are you having problems with?

Siege Class... aka heavy-heavy fighter

A-86 Thunderbolt is the current revision of the classic thunderbolt.  One of the longest line of fighters around and still in the similar role it played back when it was first introduced.  The Thunderbolt now carries dual cloudbursts, quad tachyons and the brand new demolisher cannon, a lighter weight version of the phased plasma cannon.  It can also carry a small torpedo loadout to.

The thunderbolt can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Thunderbolt-03-05-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Thunderbolt-03-05-07.rar)
The thunderbolt was built from the existing model.

=============================================================================

The A-22 Black Widow is one of the heaviest fighter available.  Big and bulky and armed with enough firepower to rip apart anything that gets in it's path.  The Black Widow can carry cloudburst, plasma, tachyon, particle and neutron in two banks each with 4 barrels, for a total of 8 cannons.
Ideal for taking out capital ship defences to allow bombers to freely launch torpedoes against it.

The Widow can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-BlackWidow-03-05-07.rar

This endth the fighter list (for now). Next up bombers.

The KB-10 Pakriss is the kilrathi's heavy bomber.  Slow as a tugboat and cability of withstanding a pounding.  The current line of Kilrathi fighterss and bombers are built completely opposite compared to their Terrian war era ships.  Instead of building in mass and throw-away, they have to now build them that can withstand punishment

Updated: fixed nasty smoothing issues, also removed a lot of windows.

Note there is three textures (0-AjaxLg*.dds) These contain the logo "Ajax".  There are three additional textures (BASE*.dds) these are blank. If you want to put names on your ships, take the BASE textures, add the name and save the results to a new names.  I don't know how to script the texture changes though in FRED.

maybe you could release the .tga and .pcx textures? seems not all systems do well with .dds files. its not like the memory usage would be bad. who puts 200 dralthi 5s in a mission nyway?

Correct, I've got too many different ships, you'll have to pick and choose until 3.7 comes out. (At least including FS2 or Saga ships)

Athena.

Comes with  a small fighter bay.

Athena is located here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Athena-01-22-07.vp.rar
Updated: new textures, reduced textures and massively increased hitpoints/shield. It's now comparable to the Tellehasse, which is about the same length and many times the mass as the Tellie.

Is located here now: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Athena-09-20-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Athena-09-20-07.rar)

...Did you mean a Blackbird in WCS?  Because the SR-71 Blackbird is a stealth spy plane... they were going to make it a fighter, but there was the problem of ejecting the missiles at speed, as well as going faster than the bullets it would fire... so they made it a spy plane.  Never been shot down.  Ever.  ;7  (Although rumor has it that quite a few Russian fighters were shot down when the ground AAA sites fired so many missiles in an attempt to bring it down that they hit their own craft.)
PS: Blackbird countermeasures: push throttle forwards and laugh your butt off.  :wakka:

Rak was built from WC3 kilrathi heavy destroyer and wc3 kilrathi bomber.

Alert as of 09-23-07: you'll also need the following two files, their updates of the orignal: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/BAY2.dds (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/BAY2.dds) and http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/BAY2-glow.dds (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/BAY2-glow.dds)  Once I update the Additional file these won't be needed (they'll be included)

Updates include: smoothing fixed, better bay textures.  Tables changes include much stronger shielding and armour, approx equal to WC3 era heavy carrier, also replaced two of the tachyons with particle cannons (still use tach turrets but that should be ok)

The nimitz was built around the old ranger model

btw theres a devestator on the land bay, I still need to finish that one.

From now on these are all new ships, I think I've finally caught up  :)

Read the first message first, theres a few new changes to the additional.vp file you'll need before using these new ships (as is).

Kavor missile destroyer.  This was Lars design.  He had designed it as a cheap fleet cannon ship, however by the time I learned about this it was already a missile destroyer   :blah:  The Kavor is lighter than the Formidable class carring only three missile tubes, however it is equiped with antimatter turrets rather than heavy particle cannon turrets.

Kavor: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Kavor-03-31-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Kavor-03-31-07.rar)
Base design and credit go to Lars.  Changes made to his design include adding the two claws on the front section, reworking the cannon barrel into triple torpedo launches,  resizing the bay, detail work and texturing.

Somehow the cockpit tub didn't get placed in the cockpit subobject, hence it disappeared.

Steltek Scout....

This currently isn't meant to be a useable ship, more of an easter egg.  I first posted this back in May 1 of last year.   The weapons don't converge and its only using quad cloudbursts. But it does have extremely strong shields (7500 i think) and good hull strength.

While I like the ship designs for the Nephilim I don't like what the designes made storywise. The beginning said something about scary monsters...and in the end they where canon fodder.
It was quite unbelivable that they would be even able to scratch the rest of confed with that pathatic fighters. Only their caps where a thread. Espacial the fleetkiller and DN.
Title: Re: My big mod release!

How true.....

I didn't get a real chance to balance these models tables.  They should be a bit slower, a bit stronger hull, a bit weaker shields, a bit weaker weapons and more of them.  Set as you can kill them, but not simple canon fodder.

Hmm when this thread gets to the second page, it's time for a new model right?  :D

Lar's Gladius is finally available.  Note there is no cockpit for this one.  The model is all his, I just cleaned it up for FS2 and textured it. The mod table puts it at a heavy fighter.

F-118 Valkyrie.  Next generation superioty medium-class fighters.  Slight more maneverable than the rapier, and has better armor.  This is due to it's thrust vectoring engines.  It comes standard with two particle canonns, two volts, and one centerline mass driver.

The Valkyrie can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Valkyrie-04-22-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Valkyrie-04-22-07.rar)

@takashi
I am here...sometimes...but mostly I am working myself to death.

As for the model. Its was meant to be as close as I could get it from the screens I got to the SWC version and Scoby did a wonderfull job with the textures.

@Scooby
You last fighter reminds me of the new Rapier from WC Arena. I say new since I don't see it as the same fighter the old rapier was. The general layout is the same but its definitly another Rapier in Arena.
It stilll makes me wonder how the fix the story so that their are Rapiers and all the other old fighters again.

Coming up latter tonight (or tomorrow)

The Nighthawk stealth/cloaking fighter.  Ideal for recon runs into enemy territory or surprise strikes or better yet, counter surprise strikes.

Sorry about the delay, there is no shield hud, uses Saga's generic one instead.  The hud would almost appear black anyways.  But the cockpit view is there, although not much to see. Your also giving quite a few extra (about double) decoys since AI can still target you will missiles.  Suggested loadout is laser and mesons, non-stop firing  :)

The Nighthawk is located here:http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Nighthawk-04-30-07.rar
Update here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Nighthawk-06-03-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Nighthawk-06-03-07.rar)
Fixed: minor lod displacement.

The nighthawk (aka F-19) was original an X-plane model that I somehow converted over and did some modifications (tail fin, cockpit, gun mounts)

Title: Re: My big mod release!
Post by: Scooby_Doo on June 23, 2007, 03:23:54 am
Finally something new.....

HHaifra, Kilrathi cruiser.  I was originally aiming for a strike cruiser with two beam cannons as it's big guns, however the turret base dwarfs the beam turrets so I replaced them with heavy plasma cannons.

The HHaifra can be found here:  http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/HHaifra-06-19-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/HHaifra-06-19-07.rar)

Updated Additional file (starting date: 09-26-07) contain the updates.
You will also need this map files: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/HHaifra-Extra-maps.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/HHaifra-Extra-maps.rar)
Extract these two files (bay2.dds and bay2-glow.dds into 'data\maps folder').  This is only a temporary until I release the additional.vp file.  I added some more texture stuff to the bay2 texture.  If you don't add these two, then the loadout bays in the fighter bay will have white floors thats all.

This model was scratchbuilt based roughly on the WC2 Prince Thrak.'s dreadnaught.  There was a picture on tactics.solsector.net but the sites gone. (Hint, it wasn't pretty LOL)

Geez it's not a good thing to see...  "Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 30 days."
Last model was released back in June  :(

But anywho.....

Introducting.......

TCS Midway heavy carrier class.

The Midway class was introduced during the WCP era.  She managed to fend off the original Nephilim invasion.  Her and her sister ships were invaluable during the second invasion and war.  However, many faults were found during this time.  One by one the ships were taken offline and underwent considerable reconstruction.  The massive hollow section in the middle caused stress problems and were closed up.  The structural beams on the two sides were bolted together, stiffening up the structure.  This also allowed considerable increase in storage space.  In addition to the that section, new underbelly and new much shorter launch systems were introduced, opening even more space to store fighters.  The increase went from 252 to over 300.  She doesn't carry any capital ship weapons, just large number of anti-fighter weapons.  Her main anti-captial weapons are her large number of heavy fighters, seige fighters and bombers.

The midway can be found here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Midway-09-02-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Midway-09-02-07.rar)
The original model can be found at CIC.

Finally got the Sartha not to crash FS2...

Sartha - kilrathi light patrol fighter.

Please note, if this model causes FS2 to crash, try using a newer version of FS2.  It will cause Xt-0520 to crash, however version Xt-0823 runs prefectly ok.

I think I might have solved the Sartha crashing problem.  It happened with my next model to.  It had nothing to do with the model itself, well basically.  Xt-520 doesn't work right with normal mapping and my video card.  Once I turned off normal mapping everythings ok.

Next up.... the Dragon
The Dragon Mk 2 was a complete retrofit around the original chassis.  Vast improvements have been made in engines, weapons and shielding.  Not as nimble as the Vampire or Falcon, the Dragon can take a pounding and dish out a pounding in return. No-wheres as nearly as expensive as the original Dragons, it is still rather high and in limited quantities for the time being, so only Special-ops and elite fighters get to fly these beast.

You can find it here: http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Dragon-09-04-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/Finished-Dragon-09-04-07.rar)
The dragon was built using the very high-detailed Dragon mesh found at SolSector.

She's rather unbalanced in the weapons department.  quad tachyons, twin cloudbursts and twin particles.

Theres no real mod going on. I'm no fredder, so I just keep creating ships

In another time.... and another universe.....

Nephilim scouting party invaded Confed space.
Midway managed to push them back and destroy the gate.
Confed and others started ramping up defense
Nephilim a few years latter with a much larger strike force through a new portal in a unused, out of the way jumpsystem and invade from there.
All three (confed, kil, border) take considerable damage
recon jumps through that portal and discsovers a second portal behind it
one strike group lead by ???? carrier jumps through portal and disables the second portal
severed from support and reenforcements the nephilim invasion party is ground into dust.
All three parties enter full war time production.
Confed starts reconning their newly acquired space (the area between the first portal and the destroyed one)
They come across an alien race thats been utterly destroyed by a nephilim battlegroup.
The aliens have considerably advanced tech but were so hopeless out-numbered.
Seeing how a treaty with them would be very advantagous, confed immedieately aligns with them and and start providing evacuation of the the few remaining civilians.
With this aliance comes massive improvements in ship building (hence the larger sizes), new weapon and armour technologies

Reminds me of a stealth plane that does! Firefox springs to mind, but it's not quite that!

Very sleek though!

I am going to have to start FREDding some of these soon!  :pimp:

Deimos class destroyer

This is 90% Admiral Cheaters corvette, 5% tallahesse and the rest mine.  A standard destroyer.  It can go against a fralthi 2 cruiser and win, assuming no torpedos hit home. Comes with a small fighter bay in the rear

I have a feeling that when I get my new video card I'm going to have to go through ALL of these and redo the normal mapping and smoothing.  Also with new cockpit styles coming down the line....

Hey, those ships are not WC but they are good too:

Look here: http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=896 (ship cards)

and here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/43136?size=large

I hope I'll see those in a MOD renegade legion campaign.

hey, scooby!

You didn't tell me if you recieved my PM regarding the renegade legion ships!

Would you agree to help me (when you have time, that is?)

I assure you some of them are great, and who knows, they might serve in a campaign one day.

Regards.

That's the first time I saw that thing.  It really looks like an upsized Southampton-class destroyer.

Tiger Claw strike carrier.  Hit 'em hard and hit 'em fast.

You'll also need build additional-12-25-07.  Otherwise you'll have part of the hanger bay invisible. (the floors of the side bays)
http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/TigerClaw-12-18-07.rar (http://scoobydoo.freespacemods.net/Finished_Mods/TigerClaw-12-18-07.rar)
The Tiger claw class was built and rebuilt and then rebuilt from Homeworld TC Wing Commander Bengal class.

The F-37B Foxbat.

Technically it should be the F-37B Ferret, but that name has already been taken.  So I just used the Mig-25's name.

Scratchbuilt from the designs.

Oh yea, that has a crack in the window, open it up in PCS2 and see for your self

The Vorshaki was built from pieces of the kilrathi corvette and rejected pieces of my rebuild of it. (I don't let things go to waste  :P )
